Email Prob. Phone too smart. Its annoying.

I've got my own mail server and use IMAP and SMTP with SSL, and a self-signed SSL certificate. I tried to add the server, but when it checks the server settings, it says, "Setup could not finish - Cannot safely connect to server (Not trusted server certificate)"

I can see why this happens, but really, *I* am the one who should decide wether to trust my certificate or not, not the phone. There needs to be a way to either add an exception in the mail setup, or to install the SSL certificate on the phone.

Any suggestions?

Well, gee, thanks. The issue isn't with the security of my mail server. certs signed from big name people like verisign and the rest all charge, and i don't have the funds for that right now.

The issue is with the phone not having an option of adding my own certificates, and i see that as a shortcoming, unless i missed a setting somewhere, did I?

my phone never synchs at the set time to my verizon.net email so i just got all my email forwarded to my gmail and that solves the problem push email worksfine now

I've not used the standard email client, but with K7 if you selection the option resembling 'use ssl if available', it will use the self signed cert... otherwise, it's rejected.

I had the same problem. Are you sure setting it to "use SSL if available" isn't falling back on an insecure connection when it sees the unverified cert? I'd like the option to add the self-signed cert as well (and force the SSL connection) as that would be a lot more secure than connecting to my email server with the password in the clear, particularly on public wi-fi.

I only run my imap on 993 over ssl and the "use ssl if avaliable" option worked with my untrusted cert (even though its not self signed ). Since I dont listen on 143 I know it went over ssl. However it didn't even mention anything about a security issue when using the untrusted cert. sounds kinda buggy to me

Anyone else using imap have a sent folder where everything is from them? Shouldn't it display the TO instead of FROM for the SENT folder? And yet another bug, there is no option to BCC all sent mail or to copy sent mail to a sent mail folder. And moreover it appers that IMAP IDLE isn't yet supported as it actualy checks for mail

They are still having problems with this as my Galaxy Portal just had the same trouble...but thank you PaulR and drak0...followed both these pieces of advice and it's now working....cheers!
