looked up wiki and nothing ... ? does anyone know of a site than can tell me about the history of elves e.t.c. please
 
Forget lord of the Rings, AD&D and other fictional, commercial, made-up crap. If you want to know about the reality of Elves, do some research into the Sidhe.
 
Elves are mythical creatures so you need to look at the history of mythology.

Also look at Tolkein (Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, etc) and Shakespeare (A Midsummer Night's Dream), C.S. Lewis (the Narnia novels).

Also Celtic and Nordic mythology, much of which Tolkein drew on for inspiration
