Let's look at your original statement: Gotta' hate the annoying sound effects on the album version..." Sound effects include: an electric guitar (not what I'd really call a sound effect) and a cough. "I think the demo is what the song should have been." I'm very sure you'd know more than Elliott on this. The demo version is hardly different, the electric guitar makes it much more listenable in fact. Because it adRAB a level of interest and fullness to it you couldn't get with just an acoustic guitar.
Oh, I don't think I've posted here yet. This is an amazing album, with a lot of truly beautiful songs on it. Although it's not my favorite album of Elliott, it does have Rose Parade on it, which is clearly the best song on the album and his greatest song ever. Ever.
^And they're all good songs, but none of thoose for me were really the standout, amazingly good tracks that all of his other albums had
And I never understood why people always said that thoose were their favorites
I guess that's just me and my weird taste
but I always prefered his other albums
What? I love most of those songs L.A., son of sam, somebody that i use to know, everything reminRAB me of her, Junk Bond trader, prety mary k. It 's proably my 3rd favorite ES album
Ah, I see you're trying to make a big deal out of what the song was meant to be. Guess what? I think the song would be best served by being purely acoustic. That has nothing to do with what Elliott Smith wanted it to be.
if you want to get into technicalities then, yes, i suppose Figure 8 was his last finshed album. But it still showed his music was changing from the direction it orginally started in and it was the last thing he was working on before he died.
Additional musicians on Figure 8
Sam Coomes - bass on "Everything Means Nothing to Me," "In the Lost and Found (Honky Bach)," "Stupidity Tries," and "Pretty Mary K"
Pete Thomas - drums on "Junk Bond Trader," "Wouldn't Mama Be Proud?" and "Can't Make a Sound"
Joey Waronker - drums on "Stupidity Tries"
Jon Brion - backup vocals on "Happiness/The Gondola Man"
Soo I decided to try Elliott Smith out on a whim and upon reading all the threaRAB about him I've found that.... there are a lot of arguments over stupid sh-t.
But, I'm still not sure where to start-- of course, it's hard to base an opinion on 30 second iTunes clips. I bought "Pitseleh" as it jumped out at me, but now I can't decide if I should just buy the whole XO album, or the whole Either/or album... I can only get one right now.
