Eligibility for phone upgrade without contract renewal on Verizon?

what ever the guy did for your dad should not have been done. it was a mistake on the employee's part and your dad is lucky.

all upgrades require a new contract to be signed. The whole Idea behind the upgrade is that they give you around $100-$200 off the price of the phone for signing a new contract.

you can alway upgrade at anytime durring your contract but you will pay full price for the phone, to get the discount on your new phone you must renew your contract for another two years.
 
I'm looking to grab a new Verizon Wireless phone, and noticed I may be eligible for a free upgrade. I'm part of a family plan, and everytime in the past that I've gotten the free phone, the Verizon employee got me to renew the contract.
My dad is on the plan and just got the free upgrade without renewing the contract. Am I eligible for this free upgrade as well without signing a new contract? I've had my phone for exactly two years as of today.
