Electrical system ZAPPED on my chevy VAN what next?

89 Chevy G20 V6 van. After my battery died I jumped it with a battery charger on the high setting. Now the system is fried and the van only stays running while the batt is connected to the charger. When you pull the cables off it slowly dies down. I replaced and checked the altornator (self reg. Alt.). I swaped the ECU with a G10 van out of desperation (couldn’t find a g20 at the junkyard). I replaced rusty batt terminals. I put an L.E.D. tester to just about every wire on the van but couldn’t find anything that was wrong. I did notice…..the van always reved high on start-up for a few minutes then died down. It doesn’t do that after the system got zapped. Do I have to replace every electrical component? Any helpful tips or ideas would be great. Any!
I replaced the battery with a new one after the auto store told me the original one was bad and still had the same problem. I'll check it out first thing in the morning.

Sounds like your battery is bad. Batteries go bad in three ways. One is normal sulfation, or just age. Another is internal short. And the third is an open circuit. Take your car, or battery if the car doesn't run, to most any autoparts store and they can check the battery for you.
