Is he a racist? I just don't get it. He is "black" and the rest of us in America that are not "black" are either yellow Asians, brown Hispanics, red Native Americans, olive Middle Easterners, white Europeans, etc.... From his point of view the world is either "black" or "white" and he is the poor mistreated "black" man that needs to talk about his problem. Why don't he just hire a psychiatrist? I just don't get this racist obsession with being "black". Do you? I don't hear any of the other colors constantly complaining. I hardly ever hear anything from the "red" man. Some "black" people are so sensitive. Can you imagine a NFL football team called the Blackskins? What an uproar that would cause. Yet we have a NFL team called the Redskins and nobody seems to notice. Why? What is this "black" thing?

Ignorance-as in unaware. The ignorance that he spoke about is definitely less than desirable but not meant to be a resounding thumbs down. Whenever someone is not well-informed on a subject, they are ignorant of the facts.

I, personally, don't believe that he meant ignorant, as in stupid, crazy, behaving badly, or other negative tags on the words ignorant or ignorance.

If you're unaware, having a conversation or learning from a reputable source might change your view on a subject on which you are not well-informed aka ignorant.

It may be that he is a racist, or he may genuinely feel that opening up a dialog will bring both sides a little more understanding of the other in an effort to identify common ground, where we are similar, and where we are completely different. There is a lot of prejudice out there from all sides of the melting pot. Respect for mankind is not easy when there are so many people and personality types that can rub us wrong, and some we would never run with. Respect for life and a new perspective might help heal some of the wounds of racism, but everybody must meet in the middle.

Mandy...I've read quite a few of your posts, and you always seem to come out on the side of the blacks, as if the white guys are the leading culprits and the most racist. I travel the usa extensively and I can assure you, your mistaken. You should try sitting with some of the brothers in Atlanta, Tulsa, Compton, E. St Louis or KC. You wouldn't be able to wrap your mind around it, it's so thick with trash talkin whitey. Of course, I run in some circles that are not regarded as proper to upstanding people, and when in the company of professional people, the language softens.

Panda...Your right about sports teams naming teams identifying with american Indian culture. I am Cherokee, and I am proud for teams to use the names. My skin is actually more brown or sun ripened, but my blood is red, so thats cool.
I enjoy it when the Cheifs fans do the tomahawk
chop for their rally cry. It offends some of the elders at times, but I think the wise ones kind of
like it. If we can't find the humor in these little things, we become offensive to ourselves. Thats when we lash out aggressively, and become owners of the anger. No Muy Bueno.

In a person of his position his comments were completely unprofessional.

Also, the fact he stated this should be occurring at "private" not "public" functions is also outside his scope of authority.

Because he is a racist.

If you want to get beyond racism, you need to stop focusing on race.

IluvNewYork says:

"Try walking in another mans shoes." to white people, but doesn't say the same to herself or black people.

Then she says:

"Often racism starts with ignorance".

Oh, the irony! LOL

I have to agree with you as a minority who is not black. I don't sit and think about how my people were treated all day long.

I think we talk about race too much. If we take the focus off of race and onto the qualities a person possesses, then we will progress.

I personally think you should open your eyes. Sensitivity to minorities in our country needs to be revamped. Racism as the other poster has stated is still a huge issue in our county. You may not see any of it yourself as you are white and think there isnt a problem. Of course there isnt a problem for you you are not a visible minority. Try walking in another mans shoes. You will see racism is still out there. You do not need to go far, look at the posters here and lets play a game lets see who can count faster all the horribly racist posts put on here against Obama and his wife. Its endless. Do you think that is one poster with a hundred different avatars? Not likely. I think you should read more and get out more and ask minorities how they feel and what they experience. Often racism starts with ignorance.

Oh give me a break. I am white and I see blatant racism against Obama and all blacks constantly. Do you have your head in the sand, do you get out much? Do you read? Watch tv...or just sit on yahoo here and you tell me if every five minutes there is something new and disgusting posted against Obamas color. I see it so often that it sickens me and I have to stop myself from always getting angry with what I read. Obama with monkey symbols making fun of his hair color, making fun of him with watermelons and bananas, the list is huge. If I was black you can call me sensitive ,,but I am white and I am AWARE
Wake up
