Eighties Teen Movies.

Not sure if this qualifies as a Teen movie of the 80's, but how about

Taps

Was Risky Business 80's or 90's - can't remember off the top of my head

I am writing a dissertation on eighties teen films and it would be really helpful if you guys could tell me why you enjoy these over other teen films (like of today/90s)? What do they offer you that you think is still enjoyable for teenagers today?

Thanks!

defiantely flight of the navigator its one of my top films of all time :)

also agree with mannequin & the goonies.

i also like beaches & the labyrinth.

i know i could probably list loaRAB more but i'm having a mental block at the moment!!

best teen movie is The Sure Thing with John Cusack. directed by Rob Reiner, sort of like a forerunner to When Harry Met Sally.

actually, Mr Cusack has a remarkable teen movie record having appeared in Stand By Me, Say Anything. even Hot Pursuit is very watchable.

I love:

Teen Wolf
The Goonies
Oxford Blues
Pretty In Pink
Sixteen Candles
Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Mannequin
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Lost Boys
and a top favourite---- Can't Buy Me Love

have to comment Martyn08...Twins, Robocop...80's ok, but who are the teens? :D j/k

Maybe it's a nostalgia thing for us "older" types. (i'm not that old). I'd say most of the films listed had real "heart" to them. Funny, quirky, being able to relate to the characters with no overboard FX to take away from the real stories at hand. I'm talking about the bueller's / breakfast club / lost boys ilk. I might just be talking rubbish but it seemed like the rebels still had some kind of respect which a lot of teens that i meet lack.
Maybe teenagers are just simply different but todays teen flicks seem so shallow.

I'm not sure if you could class Running on Empty as a teen movie, but its brilliant so watch it anyway!

I think I've probably seen all of John Hughes films in the 80's. My fav being 'Some Kind of Wonderful'.

I think all of my fav films have been listed.

One film I can't see mentioned is 'Electric Dreams'.

Yes! loved this one, especially the soundtrack! Still got the album somewhere.

I liked The Wraith, License to drive, Prayer for the Roller Boys. In the same vein as Porkies, Lemon Popsicle, Hot Bubblegum and Private Popsicle.

Not forgettting some of the Teen in peril horrors, The Burning, Nightmare on Elm Street.

As this was the decade of VCR, many teenagers spent there evenings and weekenRAB watching videos (I did:D).

The Sure Thing and Ferris Bueller's Day Off for me. Two films I've seen many many times and have stood the test of time. Back To The Future should also count - it's sci fi but with teen romance at its core.

Red Dawn though? That was on telly a few weeks ago - a pile of right wing jingoistic nonsense that makes Rambo: First Blood Part II look like Apocalypse Now and seemed silly to me even as a child when it came out. Amusingly it featured Patrick Swayze, then 32-ish, playing a teen!
