If you haven't seen any announcements yet, turn on your favorite all
news station (I have CNN on). People slept in the square last night
in a nonviolent protest and Mubarak has finally stepped down. This is
HUGE! I guess the military told him that they weren't going to kill
any citizens for him.

The spirit of Ghandhi lives on.

It's not that Americans don't follow international affairs but this IS a
cooking newsgroup, isn't it? It's not a world affairs or political ng.
There are newsgroups for that.

Tonight I'm making tortellini (of course I don't have the patience to make
my own tortellini). I'll toss it in a basil pesto sauce. The price of pine
nuts is exhorbitant so I'll skip those. Top it off with freshly grated
parmesan cheese.

I don't know of any group that doesn't wander off subject, or even start off
subject.
I'm taking the grandchildren out for supper. They will probably demand McD,
but since they normally eat a very healthy diet, this won't affect them too
much.
It will me, however. Salt is over-used in every restaurant, fast or slow.

There is nothing wrong with being afraid of the consequences of not
fulfilling your civic duty. I wish we had a government that gave two hoots
here in Canada...but alas. We are saddled with a dearth of numbnuts who
know dick about actually running a country and who spend the bulk of their
time playing mind games on Her Majesty's ticket. As my daughter so
accurately put it, they engage in nanabooboo politics.

I vote, however it is a waste of time. My vote just simply does not count
as much as the corporations big money bribes. Also the US constitution
states "For the Corporation by the Corporation". The "We the People" part
was shredded years ago. The people now serve the corporations as slave
laborers. As the saying goes, "the US has the best politicians money can
buy".

I have decided that a surplus of numbnuts should be referred to as a
dearth, as in "lacking wherewithall".

The hopeful note is that almost every Egyptian family has at least one
member in the military. I'm crossing my fingers that they haven't
jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

Sure - I'll keep my fingers crossed also. I think it'll be a tough time
for Egypt but it will be interesting to see how it works out. As it
goes, Americans have the same right, some say duty, to throw off an
unjust government too.
