I just saw a cute idea where they took a thin slice of deli ham, lined
a muffin cup with it and baked an egg (or two) in it.

That would make it hard. At MY Safeway, 50 miles from you, they had a
huge display, very clearly labeled but not with the other peppers. They
were on sale, somewhat cheaper than all the other peppers. I think they
only lasted a couple of weeks, though.

I've never successfully bought them in the Bay Area either. But I
did not make a balls-out effort. The Raley's in El Sobrante would
probably be the closest to have them. The Safeways in Berkeley
and Albany did not have "Hatch" chiles last year. Berkeley Bowl
may sometimes have them.

In any case, it's a moot point for six months or so.

That's how we made our huevos rancheros this past week. I frequently
make a hash of some sort and poach our eggs over it for breakfast. We
also make eggs in Purgatory which is wonderful.

Yellow can with a picture of green chile on it.

Always pays to ask :) Never an issue here, of course. The boxes and the
bags are clearly labelled. Green chiles here sold outside of the season
aren't likely to be Hatch chiles.

I think I've seen a can like that... not sure what the label said
though. I just noticed that my cans of Trader Joe's fire roasted
diced green chile say "New Mexico Hatch Valley"! That'll keep me
happy for the time being. I will assume that they really are Hatch
chiles because TJ has standards. :)

Yes, people mention Raley's but there isn't one here and any mention
of a Hatch sighting was so far away it was absolutely ridiculous to
consider traveling there just to buy a few chiles that may or may not
taste just like any other of its heat type.
