Garden do to the neighborhood in NYC? Hi, I am writing a report on the demolition of the Old Penn Station and the effects of loosing a grand public space for a sporting arena and offices. Part of this would be how the area (midtown west?) has changed since the 60s.
I assume that Madison Square Garden brought lots of people into the area and has spurred commerce? Can anyone who lived in New York during this time offer any advice? In the 60s did the corridor of shops/cafes along 7th from Penn to Times Square exist? Nearby Macy's already existed, so did Gimbel's (now defunct) - was there other shopping in the area before MSG was built?
Also does anyone know of any resources to help me research this.
