Well there is a huge difference in building a house or doing mechanic work, and IT or medical work.(read: an actual doctor)

I agree, but only to an extent. Mechanic work is fairly simple, so is construction. I can speak from experience, having done both when I was younger. I work on my car (96 Z28) as a hobby, but bring it to the shop for larger things. I do this not because I ccan

Lets see. Working in a body shop takes skills, along with painting cars and working on motors. Diffently working construction takes skill, so does working in a sewing factory. I mean it depends on how you look at things I guess. What you listed yeah not every job takes a lot of skill. But a lot of jobs people look down on are ones that that a lot skill and work are involved. I have nothing to add about Unions. I live in a right to work state.

*rolls eyes* One takes more of an education then the other. But they are only be educated in the area of their job. Such as a person building a house is only educated in that area.

Wow, I completely built my own race car and roll cage. I also just didn

things like work ethic, class, tact all of that shit depends on your upbringing and personality. You cant tell me that because you work a more physically demanding job that you have a better work ethic. Maybe we are unclear as to the meaning of work ethic

work ethic
n.
A set of values based on the moral virtues of hard work and diligence.

I think i discussed this in another thread...your values are intrinsic to you....by your same logic, a person that leaves a manual labor job to go to a "paper pushing" job, loses their "strong work ethic"....blah. When I was growing up...we didnt have shit...my mother was on wellfare and working a fulltime job (getting pay under the table)....there were five of us in a two bedroom house in the shitty part of san diego. She worked her ass off, and still found the time (and money) to go to school and get a better job. she is making 85,000 dollars a year now and its getting bumped up past 100,000 within next year. There is no such thing as not being able to make it to school....there is such a thing as being a lazy fuck and I have NO sympathy for people who whine about how hard life is and how they dont have a chance. I got a 75% tuition paid, scholarship for just getting good grades in highschool....despite all of the complaining I do about our false sense of freedom in this country, every person has just as much opportunity as the next. The only thing I can think of that would put you at a disadvantage would be a lack of intelligence, but according to you, thats a non-issue. So If your daddy is working in a garage somewhere painting cars...its because he fucking wanted to, not because he was forced to and if you live in squalor it is your choice, dont blame the cruel world for putting you where you are.

my elipses speak for themselves ;)

Let me put it like this:

Mechanics do need at least a 2 year degree in this day and age. I dont think that having a job in manual labor means that you are stupid white trash, as some of you have leaned towards. I know a lot of very stupid rich people who are simply lucky. Born into it, for example. And I know a lot of very stupid poor people too. Your career is not a notation of your mental ability. And yes, you can get school loans and get an education, I am currently 20 g in debt. You can also be a very smart person and work in a factory or mill or as a mechanic.

I think that it is presumptuous to assume that people who work in a manual labor position are less worthy than those with an education. I work very hard at my job and at my education and raising my family. My man works very hard at his job. Now, in my county, most jobs are physical labor. Most of all the Northwest started as logging/mining communities. We have had several mills shut down, downsize and at least 3 mines close, so there are other opportunities, but it is hard to change from a labor force that has been the same for over 100 years to teaching new tasks and abilities.

You can not convince me that I, or a member of my family, is not as good as someone else because we are uneducated or because we are poor. My father is a wild land firefighter, he saves lives and homes. My grandfather who was a mechanic all of his life flew helicopters in WW2. My mother was a homeopathic pharmacist. None of these positions required education. but they were damn good at thier jobs and people relied on them to get thier job done correctly. Does that make them any less than another with an eduction? Fuck, any moron can get a Masters in politics, but how many are going to sky dive into a fire? How many are going to fly over hostile territory because thier country asks it of them, leaving thier wife and newborn child behind? How many are going to take the responsibility of anothers medical safety, bringing affordable and alternative medical care to them? No one in my family ever brought home a six figure income. they barely broke 5 some years. But they are my family, and I will defend them and the average broke ass below middle class worker any day of the week, because we are this countries life blood. We pay more in taxes than any other taxable income earnings person. We fund your streets and your government, and our position may not be one of authority, but it is one that demands an amount of respect.

I have to say it....when this thread began...the op says "white trash" and all you people start defending yourselves....why identify with this negative stereotype....i didnt group lower class people and "white trash" together...ya'll did (pun intended) if you have to "work hard" for your living, fantastic, If you're poor, even better. My point was that no one has the right to bitch about their station in life. and obviously none of you are "poor" you all have computers and internet and the leisure time to BS on this site.

lol ... you seen the systems you can pick up at wal-mart these days? Even the low class can hook one up on layaway ... mutha fukin rent-a-center style. lol

Coincedently, you can find the occasional steal at good-will also. I have gone there for parts and monitors .... I admit it!
