if you have more than 8 gigs of music, videos, etc
and
you want itunes to automatically add x number of random songs (or sync xGB worth of music) to your phone each time you sync..

In iTunes:
(1) uncheck any songs you don't want ever on your iPod
(2) create a smart playlist
(3) do these options:
- CHECK "match these rules"
- podcast is false
- kind contains audio
- last skipped is not in the last 10 days
- CHECK limit to ____ items (OR ___ GB, etc) selected by RANDOM
- CHECK match only check items
- CHECK live updating
(4) in sync settings, set music to only sync that playlist.

this will create a playlist with songs that will change automatically every time you sync, changing the songs you skip when playing through your ipod. the ones you actually play through will stay on until they come up and you skip them.

so, for example - if you make the max 4GB, you'll have about 800 songs automatically syncing and changing each time you sync, and also leaving about 4GB of space for video / photos.

i hope that made sense :/
