I live in brooklyn new york, and lately my phone internet service keeps bouncing from EDGE to GPRS everytime I am driving around.....and it never done this before.....anyone else experiencing this problem......I have a blackberry 8800 with OS 4.5
I have an 8820 with the 4.5 os. I have noticed that happening to mine here in Philadelphia. It's back to normal now. I hope it stays that way. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
I'm in NYC as well, and I noticed there was a period of time this afternoon (the 19th) where my phone went from EDGE to GPRS and didn't return for over an hour. Maybe they are working on the EDGE equipment?
Same here.. from brooklyn and havin alotta problems wit that for the past couple days......... n if its on EDGE the signal is veryy weak..... i also realised that its like only in our area.. cuz i went queens ova the weekend.. and it was runnin like normal.. guessin TMO is workin on it.. but it sucks.. tho..
And for some reason.....gprs seems way faster this time....hpe this has to do with the 3G that's goin on.....thanks for the reply guys

EDGE is by far faster than GPRS - don't know (or care) about the details of the technology but I'm sure of that. You guys are probably right in that T-Mobile may be doing something to their towers and it MAY have to do with 3g upgrade - that's just speculation! but one can hope.
I don't know tortured, it still could have an effect on the towers if they're doing stuff like reducing power or something, to impliment 3g, couldn't it? What do I know - all this is my imagination anyway.
To clear things up, GPRS is faster than EDGE. The reason it may be bouncing is cause of the service strength. You have nothing to worry about. And I was told that unless you don't have the 3G service, you shouldn't see any difference in service ... Hm ...
Ashain, whatever else may be cleared up, THAT is just incorrect! Check any comparison of data rates between EDGE and GPRS and post back the source of any one of them that shows GPRS to be the faster than EDGE.
EDGE is definately faster, GPRS is next to impossible to use as a tether. Unfortunately, where I live and work all I get is GPRS. I can access AT&T's EDGE on my BB (OS4.5) using manual and on off-peak hours.
I've been having an interesting situation in Nashville...My house has always been 5 bars gprs and occasionally it switch to a 2 bar edge...well since Friday night it suddenly connected to 5 bars edge everywhere in my house and area...
Theory:
T-mobile may secretly be installing 3G towers in Nashville...with an extended edge transmitter too?
