Why does Yarra Trams sell value metcards (e.g 10 x 2hr) when they can make more money selling individual metcards ?

*value metcards (tickets) are those which they sell you before hand which you can use for 10 trips
 
Why does Pepsi-Cola sell 24-packs of soda when they can earn a larger profit selling individual cans?

It's a method of attracting purchases of higher volume. In the case of for-profit operations, so long as a profit margin is maintained motivating consumers to purchase larger quantities is a reliable way to generate more revenue overall.
