Ebay Phone on Verizon

I did, but Verizon wouldn't say yes or no unless I gave them an ESN. The seller wouldn't give me the ESN (apparently people activate/deactivate phones maliciously) so said he would call himself. So....there I am. But I suspect that if Verizon activates the others, they would do so for this one also.

I want to warn you. I bought my Dad Treo 700wx on ebay because of advise here. But when I activated it online it made me pay the $29.99 data plan. My dad played with the phone before I activated it to see if he really liked it. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's $30 extra a month. He is on my family plan and just thinks it's $9.99 for the data plan. He really loves the phone, so I guess I'll pay the difference. All he wanted was the "pda" part of the phone. It's crazy that in order to have the phone you want, you have to pay extra for things you won't use.

I would call Verizon and have those charges removed. You should be able to use the phone on the basic plan. I know this happened to others and when they called they removed the 29.99 data plan. I would advise you to have the data blocked so they can"t charge you for accidental use. When I activated my phones I already had the data plan blocked. If they tell you you have to have the data plan ask to speak to a supervisor because you don't need it for the 700WX

Dollyday, definitely try to fight the charges. I am so pissed at Verizon and their policies. I bought my husband a newer dumb phone off ebay and called Verizon to activate and they guy was asking why I didn't want to upgrade thru them, and I said that I didn't want a data plan for the phone that I wanted and he said "it's only 9.99 a month". Then HE should pay it! That's still $120/yr, not as bad as $360/yr but still! I might be stuck with Verizon in our area but I still refuse to sign a new contract with them.

I've pretty much given up on getting a PDA phone w/o a data plan at this point. I now am the proud owner of an ipod touch that can sync with Outlook. My kids are jealous.

I took your advise and contacted Verizon. They did indeed take the $29.99 data plan off my bill and blocked the internet. If in the future my dad wants the internet, I can put it back on.

My husband has a hard time seeing small stuff. I bought him the phone with the biggest print a Samsung Knack. I told him it has nothing on it, no camera nothing, he said that was okay he just wanted to be able to see the display & keys wi/o his glasses. You guessed it, now that he has it, he misses the camera that his old phone had. Any suggestions on a new phone I can get and activate with Verizon. He liked the features of the Treo 700wx I got for my Dad but when my husband played with it, he said the keys were to small. It doesn't have to be a smart phone. He would like to go on the internet but we can't afford $30 a month. Any suggestions? Thanks

I am glade you called and were able to have that removed. I guess Verizon figures it's worth adding it then wait to see if you call to remove it. I wonder how many people just pay it.

As far as I know all the smart phones have those small buttons and display. There is a phone that has the a larger display and numbers and I think I saw it in the AARP magazine. It was called the bug or something like that. The phone looked to be a little wider then normal.

Thanks The Jitterbug is $99 and it doesn't have a camera. It doesn't have to be huge. Do most cell phones have the feature to have larger letters on their displays? If I could find a phone that he could adjust the letter size on the display would help.
