Ebay maximum bid stopping me adding the bid I want?

I want to place £10 on an item on ebay. The seller has agreed to finish the auction early and sell it to me for £10, but the maximum bid says that £10 is my maximum and has bid only 0.99p. How do I fix this and bid £10?
