my kids have recently asked if they can get a fish. I am fine with this, as long as the act stays away lol. I am just not sure what kind of fish are the easiest to care for in a fish tank. any advice would be great, thanks

The absolute easiest would be a betta/fighting fish. They still need a filtered, heated tank (no fish will do well for long in a bowl) but for beginners, they are very forgiving and can tolerate water quality fluctuations in stride- you'll still want to avoid letting the water get yucky, though.

The best part is that if you/your kids decide you like the hobby of fishkeeping, bettas Do get along with most other fish (just not other bettas or the closely related gourami) so you could add/expand with little worry as long as teh tankmates you select are peaceful species.
