I am having my engagement party on 30th May. We have around 150-200 people coming and to save money we are planning on doing the buffet ourselves. Has anyone got any easy and cheap suggestions on what kind of food to do?

have a deal with a decent restaurant to give you reasonable prices, maybe chinese or Indians are reasonable in their prices, you can also try Japanese Tepanyaki show, it could be more expensive but it is fun and you may get a discount for the number of people, otherwise do it by the Thames River in one pub or cruise ship.

the kinds of foods are all up to you. i would suggest going to a wholesale market to purchase almost everything. take into consideration how a caterer would go about things. make sure to have a dish with beef, chicken, fish, veggies, and starch. buy everything in bulk. secondly u can save a lot on desserts, by buying already made things and sprucing them up. ex: store bought angel food cake served with your home made berry reduction. appetizers are really easy and cheap. you could do beef and pepper skewers, egg rolls with dipping sauce, muscles, bacon wrapped asparagus spears, salads are real easy, just get a large bowl of mixed greens then small bowls of condiments, like cherry tomatoes, croutons, cucumbers, etc. and dont forget fruit platter with just cut up fruit with a honey yougurt dipping sauce. hope i helped even though i didnt answer all your questions. congrats and good luck.
