1. How are rocks and minerals different?

2. DESCRIBE five of the tests used to identify minerals.

3. Which of the tests is the most useful and why?

4. What is the problem with using only color to identify a mineral. Give an example of a mineral that demonstrates your answer.

5. The streak of metals tends to be light/dark (choose 1) and the streak of nonmetals tends to be light/dark (choose 1).

6. List the numbers and minerals in Mohs Scale. (Dumb Hint - There should be 10 of them! smile )

7. If a mineral scratches orthoclase feldspar but is scratched by quartz, what is the number of that mineral's hardness? (Hint - Look at your Mohs Scale answer you just wrote in #6.)

8. Calcite can be diagnosed with the acid test. Research and list in your own words two ways YOU use calcite. Weird, huh?
