I am from Canada and I bought E73 off ebay. After the purchase , I came to know that its locked. Now suggest me what to do. On Ebay people are selling for 27$. What do you suggest ?
Secondly, I have friends who are using T-Mobile. Can they get code for me against their loyality to T-Mobile though they didnot bought it .. The owner said, he contacted T-Mobile but they didnot gave him the code

Your friends can probably get the unlock code for you but they have to meet the criteria, balance, deposit etc. and it would proabaly be on their record and they won't be able to do same for them for a short time.
They will need the phone or ALL the info to make the request.
They can actually make the request through chat so you could be on a call with them.

If the phone was advertised as unlocked, I'd suggest you return it and ask for a refund. Otherwise, just buy the code off eBay, or try to get it via a friend that uses TMobile.

Well, Its already shipped. For 30 $ i dont feel like returning it. T- Mobile people will give the code to my friend who DIDNOT EVER USED it on their network neither bought it from t-mobile directily ?

I cannot speak for Tmobile but on their web site they indicate what the criteria are for getting an unlock code. I have gotten a code for a new phone that hadn't been used on their network so your friend probably can. I would look up the criteria. Give your friend all the info and tell them to use chat..at least that's what I preferred.
Search unlock code on their site.

I would have your friend call T-Mobile and say he will be using this overseas and get an unlock code.

Side note - are you leaving the T-Mobile firmware on it or are you debranding it and making it vanilla?

Cool you told me about Debranding. I never knew about it. I will do it too. I would certainly dont like T Mobile logo on it !
Any tips on that as well !

I got the Recovery disks. Now I started a post in my blog to share every thing I am doing it on my mobile. I am not sure if its allowed to post personal links here !
MODs can close this thread

btw, if anyone is curious if it can be done, i can confirm that current t-mobile customers CAN call in and get an unlock code for any t-mobile device, whether or not they have used it on their account. i have been with t-mobile for 5 or 6 years and have done this before for friends who bought phones on ebay and wanted to get them unlocked. all you have to do is talk to customer service and tell them you're going abroad and want to use the phone overseas. (pick a country that uses the same bands as the phone you're trying to unlock - this isn't a big deal anymore kuz most phones are quadband but just a note in case the one you're unlocking isn't)

my friend has also done this for me on at&t, so it can be done with them as well. i believe all you really need is the IMEI number. but i'd get all the info for the phone just in case they ask for something else.
