e71-2 NAM Firmware update

that is so weird then, because when i hold onto "2" like i used to, it would just keep on repeatedly enter the number 2 into the entry field instead of dialing. the only button that works is "1" but it's mapped to voicemail by default.

I've seen a later E71 build from a friend that got his 2 months back from Newegg that took considerablly different pictures than mine (which was a really early build). We tested the camera side by side taking the same shot, his had much less purple tinting and mine with more exposure as well. Same firmware, same camera settings. So some of these E71s did have something changed in them without it just being firmware.

That reasoning doesn't mean there were hardware changes...your E71's could have had parts that were sourced from different OEMs or the tolerances in the camera sensors were slightly off from each other. I've seen a few different E71-2's from build weeks of 28, 29, 30, 34, and 35 with different product codes...they're all pretty much the same. The only differences i found were, screens that were more flush, keypads with more resistance or mushier, one had a green line near the top of the screen in camera mode, dust under the screen, one had a louder speaker, etc.

Well the new firmware changed the behavior of my camera, which more or less ?fixed? it. Now if they sourced a variant of the hardware that already had it different or fixed. Then it has different hardware that the firmware has to deal with.

I already see talks of a new firmware released today at Nokia Service Points for the E66....therefore it will hit the E71 as well. It is SW 200.21.118.

Expect it to hit NSU in the next couple of weeks.

Release 110.xx was a minor update and this release 200.xx is the major one.

If this is true, then hopefully this will be the FW that fixes the camera tint. I remember the n95 having a problem like this when it first came out. But now its essentially flawless.

Also, hopefully this one is available for ALL e71-2 users, and they wont have to change their PCs

But this phone is flawless for me (with the exception of the camera). So maybe I'll hold back seeing as their is no point in fixing something that isn't broken.

Well I didn't see a post about anyone updating their E71-2 NAM firmware recently, so decided to post this.
I updated my Nokia E71-2 NAM (0569371, RM-357) today to the latest available firmware version 501.21.001 (10-08-2010). This was done using the Nokia software Update (NSU) tool and it worked flawlessly. I had a lot of applications, themes, Mfe email etc and just had to back it up to the memory card before the update.
Then removed the memory card out of the phone to avoid it being erased just in case....during the update process (couldn't take the chance !)
Took around 5-7 min and phone was updated. Then inserted the memory card back in and restored the backup and nothing was lost.
Previously I was only able to use GSM as the phone would reset when using 3G. After the update it comes back up on dual mode which is preferred anyway and has been stable without any problems.

There is another thread where we talked about the update to v501 on the E71 but I'm glad you were able to update smoothly. The instability on the E71 with 3G (assuming you are on AT&T) is due to network updates and many had issues with the E71 constantly rebooting when on the 3G network. Nokia fixed this with firmware version v400 and it's been stable for me for a long time. I recently just set up the E71 as a backup device to my N900 and it's still a great device.

Welcome to HoFo and hope that the E71 continues to get a great device for you.
