e70-2 secondary characters are different on my phone?

hi i just realized this, and wow i've been trying to sell this too. i really want to figure this out.

the secondary characters on some of the keys on the QWERTY side don't match what is printed on the key itself.

take a look at this pic:

i highlighted the keys that have different secondary characters then what are printed on them. for example, the secondary character for the 6 key should be an * but is really a $. i guess i never really paid attention because i used the Car key which gives you a list of characters similar to a T9 keyboard.

the info on the phone:
3.0633.07.00
18-10-06
RM-24
nokia e70

any advice or comments?

thanks in advance for ANY help offered.

i have messaged people interested about the issue and will edit my for sale post when i can next (which is a silly you can't edit it IMO)

thanks

Not quite sure what you mean but I think I have an idea. By the way, I have two E70-2 right in front of me, and the 6 keys have a "%" on them.

I think your problem is that someone flashed a different firmware using another region/product code. Are you the original owner?

yeah that pic has the % on the 6 too but on mine the six has a *. do yours have an upside down question mark? that to me means spanish phone?

i am not the original owner. could they have taken an E70-2 with the spanish language pack on it and flashes to english and that's why the secondary keys are different?

yes i think you get what i am trying to describe.

newbie question, how do i find out the language pack installed or what the phone was originally.

thanks boston_errol for the help, i mentioned your e70 sales to a couple people that were interested in my phone while i sent them a pm describing the issue.

thanks beatniks i appreciate the referral -- I still have one left.

it's quite possible that you have an E70-2 that was intended for other 850mhz jurisdictions such as south or central america. I just checked the writing languages available on mine and there is English, French, and Spanish.

no problem at all. i'm just really glad i noticed this before someone bought it from me. i have no desire or need to scam anyone, and i feel strongly that people should get what they pay for.

thankfully it really has no effect on my day to day use until i get it figured out, like i said i use the car or chr key if i need those characters.

As long as you take a picture of the keyboard and show it to them, i wouldn't personally disclose anything verbally/written

a detailed picture will do the trick

guess i have some searching to do about the different versions of the e70-2 and it's language packs.

you can see the keyboard in this pic from the for sale thread:

playing around i discovered my actual keyboard secondary characters line up with what is printed on the other keyboard style like the ones you have.

i made a mistake earlier, when pushing the up and then 6 it gives me % like you said.

yeah my normal profile has a very loud ring ring ring tone to hear it over the various loud noises at work but it scared the crap of me at home (where things are generally pretty quiet/chill) so i made the chill profile.
