E65 WiFi Router Compat...

Hey guys,

I just picked up an E65 - great phone - Very well put together!!!! However, I have a bit of a problem with my unit picking up certain WiFi signals. I was wondering if any other nokia WiFi users have experienced problems picking up SSIDs from specific routers. I seem to be able to pick up the Toronto Hydro broadband in the core and also certain WiFi broadcasts from Linksys routers. However, I'm having problems even detecting a network in my house on my own DLink DIR-655 Wireless router.

Is there a compatability list of routers flying around somewhere?

Thanks!

D.

I can concur that I could not connect to my D-Link until I set the SSID to broadcast. I usually keep it my SSID hidden but I could not detect the router with the WiFi on my E65. As soon as I enable the SSID broadcast, I could use it with my E65. I tried this several times (broadcast hidden and broadcast unhidden) and it was consistent.
I tried to connect to a friend's wireless router tonight (Netgear) and his SSID was not being broadcast and I could not access it either. Perhaps a bug or perhaps a "feature", oh well, I still LOVE this phone!!!

Well, I upgraded my router today to a D-Link DIR-655 and now my E65 does not connect via WiFi but it did with my D-Link DI-634M. Guess we need to revive this thread to see if anyone else is having this issue with specific routers.

UPDATE -- OK, this may be the issue: In the DIR-655 configuration settings, go to "ADVANCED" and select "WI-FI PROTECTED SETUP". Uncheck "ENABLE" and my connection via my E65 now works. Don't know why this matters but could be a potential bug in the DIR-655 firmware/settings/etc....

Nice one, HF!

I was just going to post that if you do need "WI-FI PROTECTED SETUP", you can leave it enabled, and then have the router run in 802.11b/g mode as opposed to 802.11n/b/g. This also seemed to solve the problem...

Again, nice find...

One thing that helped my E65 to get a better signal was to set my channel to 1 (instead of the default 6 or 11). But this doesn't help when I'm using a public access point.

Well actually I have a Linksys Router and before this I had a Siemens Router (WTF?) both of them had SSID brodcast turned off and I haven't had any problems with the connection, the only thing that you have to do in the phone is to input the settings ie the SSID name and network hidden option and it should work fine.

i had the same problem at home finding my FON router,, you can solve the problem by going to WIFI settings @ settings and choose from automatically to manually but the phone drains more battery but works WAAAAY batter
