e61wifi questions??

I have my phone connected to my home network and my girls network both wpa easy. When i got to work there are tons of open networks, now on my laptop i connect no problem, but on my e61 every time i scan with wlan wizard the networks seem to be changing... i'm in one spot but i keep losing networks, finding new ones, none are stable but on my laptop right next to my e61 i'm connected fine?????? Is the e61 wifi that sensitive? another problem is when i find an open wifi signal, i click it and choose to browse the net, it always tells me that wlan can't connect "no wlan network found" Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong? i figure this is just like a laptop, scan for a network, click to connect and your good to go..... not the case with my e61 and open networks???????????

your right but shouldn't it at least be able to hold a signal when i'm not even moving an inch? when i go to the built in wlan finder it refreshes every 15/20 secs with new networks..... i guess i'm expecting to much...... so basically the only time you can surf on wlan with one of these wifi enabled phones is if your within couple feet of the wifi signal correct?

I am able to connect to many but not all wifi hotspots. I think you are in Toronto and I cannot connect to HydroOneZone but I understand that Blackberries cannot either. I cannot connect to the guest wifi we have at work. I cannot figure out why. However, I have been able to connect to a number of open wifi routers in my condominium (it is getting tougher as more people are using encryption) and I have had little or no trouble connecting to hot spots in hotels and airports although I often need to move to get a strong enough signal.

The other thing I have noticed is that if a router does not have the latest firmware I may not be able to connect to it or, if I can connect to it, I cannot get the hyperlinks to work.

It sounds like your phone is having more difficulty connecting than my did. Unfortunately, I cannot offer you any advice on how to fix the problem.

Even if you dont move an inch, anything between your phone and the router can cause a signal drop.

Such as :
Truck passing by
Rain falling and other weather conditions
Other people connecting to the router
Radio transmissions
Your hand moving over your phone

But just for kicks, you can try playing in the advanced settings of your WLAN for the phone
Settings/Connection/WLAN/Options/Advanced/Disable Automatic Config/Disable Power Saving

Thanks for the replies, i took all that interference into account but my office is by a window and right outside my window on the 16th floor is a condo with tons of open wifi signals....... i realized i have to "define access point" to even have a chance to connect, i thought just like a laptop you can click the open signal, click connect and be on your way, but i guess there is one more step. back to my problem about 99% of the time even after defining the access point it still says wlan not found, sometimes i get connected but can't browse.... if i go back to the wifi finder it shows the signal and says connected but still no internet?????? I guess my expectations was a lot more than what i actually got

I had the same issue with my (now gone) E61. In my opinion it occurs only when the wifi signal you're trying to connect to is too weak. It's like it doesn't connect unless there is a minimum signal strength. Try moving a little to get a stronger signal.
