E61 - what's wrong with the battery life?

whats up

New member
This morning, I had "battery full" indicator.

I made a couple of calls say 20 mins.

Sent a couple of text messages.

Checked my email a couple of times using EDGE.

Made some more calls - say 30-35 mins.

I went online to check my email again.

I made couple more calls - say 10 mins

Sent a couple of text messages.

Battery dies at 6pm.

What's happening here? This phone is supposed to have exceptional battery life, no?

Is it my firmware? Any particular setting?

Thanks.

make sure the network is set to gsm if you dont need umts, checking your email every 30min does a toll on your battery, and constant wifi searching will eat it too.

The upgrade is available but I noticed exceptional battery life before and after. The only thing prior to the FW update was the false battery meter readings..other than that it's been great. Nothing compares to my N73's but that's a different story. If your having problems with it, ditch the battery and get a new one. Should be easy to find now that the E62 is stateside. Also, make sure your phone is set to GSM only and make sure you dont have any auto connects such as searching for wifi every 5 minutes or auto update on your email.

On my phone, the only option i have is "Dual" or "UMTS" and I have it on "Dual" under network settings.

On the WLAN connection setting, i have it set to "Search = Never".

is it branded? mine came with hk's 3 network and "planet3" web thing. u have to change some product code and reflash the phone to get the option. try searching for it. sorry i forgot the link

I had it re-flashed from the place where i bought it (yes, it was hk's 3 network) but still don't have a "GSM" option under network settings. Is that what you mean?

Naah..it's ok..I'll take it to a guy i trust to do it right. If i had bought it from him, i'm sure it'd have been right the first time.

Yeah, I had a 3 branded e61 as well, and changed the product code and re-flashed it and got the GSM option. It does make a tremendous difference on battery life. If you had it re-flashed, then they didn't do it right. Make sure though that you re-flash it to the correct product code for your keypads or the txt/keys won't match up.

here i found the site i used. i used product code 0524755

it was reallllly easy u should give it a try. good luck!

btw: the code works fine with the Chr keybord. no problems whatsoever. english if that matters

Araine, I had the same problem as you have and almost gave up posting and asking, until I finally figured the issue out:
First, I had bought on Ebay an inexpensive belt holder. While the item really is helpful and looks neat, the plastic holder constantly presses a volume button on the left side of the unit and doing something - draining the battery.
The other, most important discovery I made while travelling: I used an older charger from the previous Nokia's I have owned and attached the 'adapter' supplied with the E61 shipped from the factory. When I left the unit charging with the charger all night, in the morning all bars were up and no more charging movement. I assumed the battery was full, but 6 hours was all I got out of it.
Look into your charger, are you using the original charger given with the unit? Have you tried charging with another, brand new charger?
Now my problems are solved, I get exceptional battery life, right now traveling in Japan and using UMTS, I am satisfied.
The E61 is extremely sensitive to the charging unit you use

my E61 battery life SUCKS lately.
but the biggest problem isnt the lack of time it lasts, its the lack of warning...
itll go from full 7 bars of service (almost all day) then as soon as it hits 6 bars ill see "battery low" to shutting off mid-call, all in about 5 min

i have the same problem but know its due to my heavy wifi usage so im not grumbling anymore, rather than fight and fuss, anyone knows of a good dock i can buy that would just charge an extra battery so i can switch them as im ready?
