E61 on Mac as a BT modem

1) Download the Nokia 3G Scripts from http://www.taniwha.org.uk/

2) Place the Modem Scripts in ~/Library/Modem Scripts

3) (Re-)Pair the phone with your Mac. Make sure you check the box next to "Use phone to connect... (or something similar to that)".

4) Enter your APN in the field for phone number. If your provider requires that you use a username/password to connect to internet, enter that too.

This should get you up and running.
 
I have been connecting my i-mate SP5m to my MacBook Pro for a while and then after getting the E61 and trying out the above scripts things didn't seem to work. On a whim, I decided to try my iPAQ GSM scripts that I found here and voila it worked like a charm with the Nokia E61 too.
 
PALMSOLO: I tried doing the same but was unable to get past the "Authenticating User" part. It keeps giving me an error message " Unable to negotiate connection" could you tell me what other settings you used?

OK, I am using T-Mobile for my unlimited data plan on the E61. I paired the E61 with the Mac and designated it as a mobile phone.

In Internet Connect here is what I have for settings:
Telephone Number: *99#
Account name: a
Password: a
Modem: iPAQ GSM
The two checkboxes on the config page are unchecked.

That's all I did and am now able to connect to the E61.
 
WorldIRC; try following these steps - with modifications to your speeds/phone to see if it helps. (I omited step one because it asks for providers gprs apn settings; I'm thinking if I posted it would be an insult).

2.????From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
3.????From the View menu, choose Network.
4.????Choose New Location from the Location pop-up menu.
5.????Type a name for the new location such as "Wireless Modem".
6.????Choose "Network Port Configurations" from the Show pop-up menu.
7.????Make sure the "USB Bluetooth Modem Adapter" is enabled. Deselect the ports or interfaces you aren't using in this location, such as "Built-in Ethernet", and "Internal Modem".
8.????Click Apply Now.
9.????Choose "USB Bluetooth Modem Adapter" from the Show pop-up menu.
10.????Click the TCP/IP tab, if necessary. Choose "Using PPP" from the configure pop-up menu, and enter the DNS numbers and search domains as provided by your mobile phone operator.
11.????Click the PPP tab, and enter the account name, password, and telephone number as provided by your mobile phone operator.
12.????Click PPP Options. A sheet appears. Click "Use TCP header compression" to disable this option, and click OK. Your operator may be able to tell you if you can leave this option turned on or not.
13.????Click the Bluetooth Modem tab, and choose a mobile phone model that closely resembles yours from the Modem pop-up menu. In some cases, your mobile phone operator may provide a specific modem script for you to use.
14.????Click Apply Now.
15.????From the View menu, choose Bluetooth.
16.????Click the Settings tab, and select "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" to enable that option, if necessary.
17.????Make your mobile phone "discoverable" to other Bluetooth devices, or turn on Bluetooth communication. See the documentation that came with your phone for instructions.
18.????Choose "Search for phones" from the Bluetooth menu bar item, and select your phone, which you have already paired.
19.????Once your phone and Mac are connected, open the Internet Connect application.
20.????Click connect. Your telephone should connect to your mobile phone operator, and in 10 to 20 seconds, you should be able to use the Internet.
 
Sounds like you need to configure the proper APN in your phone. Menu>Tools>Settings>Connection>Packet Data

Before I did that, mine would try to connect and then say the connection was lost, although I'm using a PC. Alternatively, you can figure out how to put the correct AT+CGDCONT string into your dialing scripts to configure your phone for the proper APN each time you connect.
 
iSync works fine, although you'll have to manually play w/ the devices file (deep w/in iSync, I forget the file name). However, there is an annoying hour shift on the alarms - I think what happens is it treats local time as GMT,and then moves everything accordingly - I'm in Los Angeles, so after I sync, my alarms get moved to -7 hours (i.e. if the alarm was originally for 8pm, it will ring at 1pm). I think there is a workaround using novalogic (? not sure if this is the right company) plug-in, but I haven't tried it yet.

I'm going home tonight and try this tip for bluetooth modem and see if it works...if it does, I'll be a very happy camper.

Ok. I am able to connect, but unable to get to any sites. Nothing seems to get through. I have played around with the settings (TCP Header Compression, etc). Any other ideas?
 
Since I don't have a Mac I can't be more specific, but make sure that your dialer is configured to use the dial-up connection as its default route. To check to see if it's the problem, you'll have to know/figure out how to view ip routes on the computer and look at them when you're dialed up.

If you know an IP address that responds to pings, you might try pinging it when you're connected through the phone, as the problem may be a DNS issue. I don't know, but you might have to do something to get it to use the network's idea of what DNS servers you should be using.

i finally got my working reliably,

when setting up the E61 as a bluetooth device, make sure to choose "dialing up an internet ISP" instead of the "high speed GPRS, 1XrTT connection"

as soon as i did that, using no username or password (and the wap.voicestream.com AP, as i'm on the BB BES plan) i'm good to go
 
I actually paid for this piece of crap software. I meet all software requirements they say I need for it to work but it does not. iSync tells me their plugin is not compatible, even though I have the correct versions.
 
you guys are awesome! Using my e61 as BT modem with Mac (os 3.9) works great! Seems pretty fast too (EDGE- Tmobile) or maybe that tells me something about what could be lacking in Time Warner Cable

What got it to work for me after numerous unsuccessful trials were the following:
-- had to use the ipaq GSM modem script (none of the nokia scripts worked)
-- had to go back and re-do setting up the E61 as a bluetooth device, make sure to choose "dialing up an internet ISP" instead of the "high speed GPRS, 1XrTT
-- had to enter internet2.voicestream.com (this depends on which data plan you have) as the access point in tools>settings>connections>packet data> on my phone. I had figured that since it uses packet data for other apps it didn't need that field filled in but it does.
-- use *99# for telephone number (NOT internet2.voicestream.com)
-- I used "a" for both username and password but dont know if it's necessary to fill those in.

yes, i have the unlimited data plan.
