E61: Messed up address book - help please!

Ok, so I have a Nokia E61 that I bought unlocked on the internet which is the wifi model, I use it on Cingular. I like it, I've had no problems until now. All of a sudden all my address book is mixed up, names changed and moved, numbers taken from one contact and placed in another contacts details, it's killing me. I have F-Secure mobile virus checker and scanned my phone, nothing. I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet or from Nokia who frankly were useless, they just kept on saying that I had to go back to the country that I bought it from, yeah, if only I knew, one of the down sides I guess.

Does anyone have any ideas on what it is, what I need to do? I am nervous to sync it with my Outlook in case it wipes it, I redid all of my contacts in Outlook but just don't know what to expect.

Please! help a guy who travels 4 days a week and lives on his phone.

If I have any doubts, I back up my outlook before I try a sync to be sure it doesn't mess anything up. You can backup just the contacts or the who outlook folder and that way if you mess it up, you can easily fix it.

This has happened to me quite a few times and from my experience, it's usually a Sync software like Outlook, Mail for exchange, etc.

What I usually do is backup my contacts on Outlook, delete all contacts on the phone (and back them up to the memory card to be safe), delete all data from sync profiles and accounts like Mail for Exchange, modify contacts in Outlook to make sure they look ok, then finally do a resync to restore contacts to the phone.

The final step would be to resync with all sync profile and software.
A hard reset is just too much of a bother.

BTW, if u really want to do a hard reset, the code is *#7370# which u can enter on the standby screen.

You need to know that when you do a hard reset you will totaly reformat your phone and it will be as new, in terms of settings and programs on it.
You may also want to consider a soft reset. Soft Reset: *#7780#, 12345 and then Yes.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned that.

A *#7370# will completely erase everything from your phone. So make sure you back your contacts, calendar and messages and basically anything that is irreplaceable.

A *#7870# will only reset settings, nothing is erased.
