E61 discontinued?

It is certainly not discontinued. If there is scarcity, it is likely due to deman exceeding Nokia's ability to supply right now but that will be corrected pretty fast most likely.

For what it's worth - I ordered my E61 (UK version) from Chicago based Mobile Planet (www.mobileplanet.com) on 9/29 and my phone is arriving on 10/5. They just forwarded my UPS tracking via email today. I paid $416.00.

They told me upfront that they receive deliveries from the UK twice a week and they would not bill my credit card until the product arrived and shipped...they were true to their word. Mobile Planet is a division of Expansys a UK electronics distributor that seems to have better than average availability of the phone in the UK.

Can't wait until Thursday to plug in my Cingular SIM!!!

I will have mine for sale with a 2g memory card next week on ebay if anyone is interested. Its only 2 months old and is PERFECT.

You can also get the E61 from x1387 on Ebay. I've purchased 9 phones from this seller and never had a problem.

I also bought three phones from myworldphone.com without a problem but lately there have been a lot of complaints about them on this forum.

Got an email today form mobileplanet.com. My e61 should be here next monday the 16th.

They show stock on the site, but it is stock in the UK, so you wait until it gets to the US, before they ship. They do tell you that it will take 2 or 3 days to get it out, but it is the UK version, supposedly..

Saw the price of this phone, jump about $50.00 over the last 2 weeks..

I wish I had this phone in August, when I was traveling through Europe..

I was planning to purchase an E61 in early September when they were plentiful on eBay and going for around $350 plus shipping at various online vendors.

I decided to put it off for a few weeks and was shocked to find out last week that the price had risen to around $400 at several vendors and that eBay had only around 15 listings with some at $418. I finally made a purchase at importgsm.com last Tuesday for $359+shipping, but then found out that they have not received a shipment of E61's for four weeks now and do not know when they will be in stock.

I was told that apparently Nokia has stopped producing the E61 for the time being in order to meet demand for the E62 from Cingular. Guess it may be awhile before I get my shiny new phone.

Anyone else have any feedback on this? I ordered an E61 from importgsm (partly due to their warranty policies) on the 10th and after calling yesterday was told that Nokia has temporarily stopped production of the units, and they were unsure of when the units would be sent (estimated a couple of weeks).

Anyone in the "know" care to confirm or refute?

There are still full page ads for the phone over here. Remember that they just put out a Version 2.0 of the firmware for the E61. This might have something to do with it as well.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413 es61)

Myworldphone.com have them in stock but i dont know why nokia wants to stop producing e61 it is a gr8 phone

My guess is that they probably halted production as some issues with the keypad and other glitches seem to have been found, and hopefully they are addressing it, so that the newer units sent out don't have some of the earlier bugs.

Also, someone mentioned on another thread that they may be under some pressure to concentrate on producing E62's for a while for the US market and not have so much E61 competition...

I ordered mine from importgsm on Oct 3 and got the same story last week. They have been waiting for over 4 weeks now for a new shipment of E61's and don't have any idea when more will arrive. I will probably call them one more time today and cancel my order if there is no new information.

I'm thinking the same thing, as there seems to be quite a few vendors on fleabay and elsewhere who don't seem to have problems obtaining stock.

I cancelled my order with importgsm and purchased the E61 from myworldphone--just got it an hour ago! Thanks for everyone who provided the tip.

I was surprised though to receive a Hong Kong/Chinese model. I had assumed that most of the imported Nokia phones would be UK/European. Can anyone tell me if I should be concerned about variations in build quality or performance?

p.s. The phone also has a strange scent of flowers--not sure if this is a "feature"
