E61 BB Connect Email Light Problem: Solved

Me..!

New member
Ok, so I read a couple of posts from folks using the e61 with the BB connect service, and they were talking about how with firmware version 1.0610.04.04 (which has no update available currently, grrrr Nokia!), they were unable to get the email indicator to work correctly with the Blackberry service. When you tried to turn on the email indicator, it automatically defaulted to 'off' no matter what you did (instead of 2 minutes, 30 minutes, etc).

I had this same problem, until I uninstalled and re-installed BB Connect, then it started working. I was trying to figure out why, so I did it one more time, and here's the solution:

1.) Uninstall BB Connect
2.) Set the indicator light to your desired setting (i.e. 2 minutes, 30 minutes, whatever)
3.) Reinstall BB Connect
4.) Re-send service books (this may or may not have any bearing, but it's what I did, so YMMV).

Voila, my indicator light is now set for '30 minutes' and works flawlessly with BB Connect.

There is a newer version of firmware available for the E61. I have v2.0618.06.05. The e-mail indicator light works fine.

Not for certain unbranded Euro phones, the NSU won't let you update (and I dont' feel like paying for iunlock, or doing the phoenix jive myself).

Not sure what the deal is, but mine, which is an RM-89 with the above firmware says "no updates available" through the NSU, and I know I've seen others on the boards with the same problems.

You try changing the product code to something that you know works with NSU downloading the new f/w, using that NSS software? I mean you're still taking a chance, but a much smaller one...

(NSS could see/edit my E50, but fails to see the E60. odd.)

Lol, instructions? I've never changed the product code, have no clue how to do so, and really don't want to brick my phone by trying .

Oh, and I'm sure this is somewhere in that godawful long NSU thread, but if you don't mind repeating that'd be great!

Thanks man,

Sure no problem -- it's pretty much a no brainer. As long as you realize you're totally on your own if something breaks, I can't repair phones. As mentioned, I changed my E50 but there's no firmware updates out yet for me to actually try the flashing part with NSU.

1) Make sure the phone works in PC Suite mode with a USB cable
2) Install the NSS beta software from here: http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/software.htm
2b) During install, choose the 'virtual USB' option. The other options are if you own one of their hardware boxes; the virtual USB mode allows changing the product code, but not actually flashing a phone.
3) Connect the phone in PC Suite mode
4) Start NSS.

Now here I'm going on memory, at work and my NSS is at home. You click the upper right icon on the menu (this app's UI is bad, so work with me) and it should scan the USB ports and fine your handset, and be blinking "ready!" along the bottom.

Choose the second 'tab' (which looks like a button up top) Phone Info. On the right side should be a textbox for Product Code -- all you do is click READ, and the field should populate from the phone. To change it, simple type in a new code, tick the 'Enable' (?) checkbox next to it then WRITE to save it to the handset.

Of course, use a known good product code -- gsmhosting.com is a good forum with lots of flashers and hardware nerds if you want to research. I have read numerous reports that if you have a Chinese keypad (it has the pinyin/strokes printed on the keys), you *cannot* cross-flash to a Euro style firmware; the keyscan codes are different and it won't work right. YMMV.

Wirelessly posted (Series 60: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.1; U; en-us) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

Hmmm... The fact that he word 'beta' is in there makes me think i'll hold off lol. My phone has zero issues, so if it aint broke don't fix it!
