E61 Battery Cover can be CUT, so as to make the miniSD Accessible, bad or good idea?

i have been musing about the idea of making a small cut on the battery cover of the E61 so that it will expose the minSD slot... in this way you dont have to remove the battery cover to remove the hot-swap miniSD...

i know that it is very easy to remove the battery cover and i dont have any problem at all with it, its just that i thought that this might also be a cool idea, well i thought it is... what do you think???

Do you really remove yours enough to justify the cut? I'm assuming you've got a 2gigger so needing more space frequently probably isnt the issue. Do you usually transfer data by removing the card and putting it into a reader? I loved how stable the battery cover felt (and that's a rarity with Nokias so it seems) and I wouldnt want to alter that. Interesting idea if you really swap it that often.

IMO, it's just asking for added dust intrusion to the insides. I have 2 cards (1Gb and 2Gb) and I haven't had a need to swap cards. Not really an issue for me. When I first got my e61, I admit I thought it was a hassle....but not since then have I really even thought about it.
I honestly don't see a need to do it, but if you do then I wouldn't tell you not to.

i have 2GB miniSD....

its just an idea of mine... i got some spare time comin and since i am holding off my cellphone buying for the N95, i am trying to do some moding at least to keep me pre-occupied coz i got to hold on and wait for that N95....

LMAO that is too funny, it is nice to have it covered so it doesn't pop out although i would imagine you would have to shove something in the hole to get the card out with it cut unless you make a huge cut then it would be pretty sad looking

hmmm...

^ i could go then.... ehehehe but id rather not... i want to do some modding

how about having cut in there with a hinged cover...

they "tested" a 5500 by running it over with a car and other such things. it was in a thread a few weeks ago.

personally i think hardware mods are awsome and am a little sad that i don't see more of them in this forum. i am going to paint my e62 as soon as i get a replacement housing.

you could hollow out an old "zach morris" phone and put another phone in it to make it work. like an old 3390 in some piece of an old moto or something that would be a project. make the buttons all work, lol.

i personally have always wanted to strip s60 down and redo the drivers and plug-ins and run it on another phone. running s60 on a razr or sidekick would make me laugh.

Since you're all about modding your E61, what about this:

Why not a sliding keypad cover with a numpad on the front. Just a thin sheet of metal with a numberpad from some other phone embedded, that when you press those buttons, they in turn press the number buttons on the QWERTY of the E61. Auto-slide would kick ace, too. So with the slide up, it just looks like an incredibly fat regular phone, but then hit a button and sha-zing! it slides down to reveal the QWERTY.
