E50 questions

I'm seriously thinking of getting an E50. I've been missing my S60 OS since abandoning the 3650 and have been waiting for such a thin phone!

1. Can someone confirm if the light around the joystick works properly for missed calls or new messages (voice or text)? The user guide says it does, but I wanted to verify if it works as advertised.

2. Can the S60 version of Bounce be played on it?

3. When transferring files (pictures, etc.) from the microSD card to the computer, do you have to go through PC Suite? On my Moto, the card is simply recognized as an external drive, so it's easy to just drag and drop across Explorer windows.

1. It "flashes" green

2. I dunno

3. By means of data cable or card reader? For card reader yes you can drag and drop in Explorer. I dunno about data cable though.

i am in the first month of owning my E50 and i love it! after the initial learning curve (i came from a Nokia 6230) everything is working great!

1. It works for the most part, the only time i ever have problems with it not working is with email, sometimes it just dosnt want to flash. But for missed calls and text's it works great.

2. No clue

3. When PC Suite is installed you can browse the memory card right from you "My Computer" and drag and drop stuff, and even to the phone memory.

Thanks spotdog.

The user guide just says the light is for missed calls & messages, so I guess it makes sense if it doesn't always work with email. I really only care about missed calls and voice/text messages anyway, so it's perfect!

If you like simple little addicting games, you should look into Bounce. I had a blast playing it on my 3650. Once I get the phone, I'm definately going to try to load Bounce onto it.

im still looking for a few games for it, i dont have any right now and it is a pretty boring phone in that respect, i had a TON of games for my 6230b.

I need to find a place that has free games... lol i dont believe in purchasing games for cell phones, that is unless i cannot find a good snake port.

e-mails, sms, mms, and missed calls can all be notified by the joystick light if you set it as a notified event... you just goto phone settings and then to "Notification light"

if there is a bounce for S60 3rd ed, then it that game should work...

memcard can be recognized as a USB disk, or use PC Suite, it is free anyway, not like moto...

Edit: well, there is bounce back-> http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&osId=914&jid=AE52714768EE91618C488EE1EF343A1X&platformId=4&N=4294920363%2096801&R=183285

I haven't checked out Bounce Back, but for the 3650 (which I think was 1st edition of S60), Bounce was free on the Nokia website. This site:

http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/symbian/freeware/download-bounce.html

seems to have Bounce for the 1st and 2nd editions. Don't know if they are backwards compatible.

1st and 2nd editions will not be compatible with e50 which is 3rd ed. Try to find the java version. A friend showed me on his SE. Seemed ok, except for the smaller screen on the game.

1. Yes it works perfectly fine.
2. Assume yes? Haven't tried

3. yes there is a pc-mode (I think thats what its called). but you can bypass pc suite.

edit:

Otherwise an excellent s60 v3 phone. I've had it since last October.

Oh yes, the E50 is just perfect for people who wants to have more talktime on their phone. My e50 can last around 4 days with 30 minutes of conversation everyday. Excellent!

The more and more i use my e50 the more and more i love it!!! hahah, im thinking about getting an n76 for my girlfriend for her birthday (thank god its in November!!).

The more and more I use my E50, the more I get used to it. This doesn't mean that I like it more.

I switched when my 6230i died, and even though the 6230i is not as fast (UI-wise) as the 6230, it was hella faster than my E50 was. Now I know that S40 and S60v3 is a huge jump, but it's something that you have to get used to. My E50 runs apps very fast...just the "phone" qualities aren't as superb as I would like them to be, such as quick-loading Contacts, Quick menu, Quick "New Text Msg."

Overall, it's a great phone. There are some tricks you will want to do to keep phone speed up, such as limiting menu icons to 12 a folder and putting the "New SMS" on the right-softkey if you text a lot.

New SMS will load up alot quicker if you make it your first Active Standby shortcut.
one click of the joystick and voila its open.

Yeah, even other S60 phones I've messed with have not been as efficient with the purely phone functions. Guess you have to give up something when getting so much in one device!

I would love to get one in all black, but after searching around (here and Google), I haven't found anyone that has it in stock. Oh well - black & silver is nice too!
