E5-00 vs E71?

Hey everyone,

I'm planning on getting a new phone in November and I researched the E71 a few months ago and found that Amazon sells it for a constant price of 229.99

Recently I looked back on Amazon and found that they had a new phone, the E5-00 for 199.99
Seeing as it is a new phone, I was wondering why it's price is so much lower.

So that's why I'm here. I'd really appreciate if someone could outline the differences between the E71 and the E5-00 for me and suggest which one would be better for me. My budget tops out at 229.99 (Amazon's price for the E71) so if you'd like to recommend another phone keep that in mind please.

Thanks! And sorry if I sound demanding :(

Here are the major differences:

E71 display colors - 16M
E5 display colors - 256K

E71 has 2.5 audio jack
E5 has 3.5 audio jack

E5 has more memory storage and double the RAM

E71 has a 3.2mp camera
E5 has a 5mp camera

E5 has a faster processor

E5 has better battery life even though the battery is smaller due to better power management

Depending on your needs you may want to look at the E63 which can be had for less the $200

@mo98 Thanks! I've already researched the E63 but I kind of want either the E71 or E5 because they have GPS that doesn't require a data plan (correct?) and many other apps that the E63 does not. Also apparently the E63 doesn't have a volume rocker on the side which is an inconvenience.

But so my next question would be, if the E5 has double the RAM does that mean it's a faster phone? And does it have all the other software features that the E71 has?

Also, how much of an image quality (viewed on phone) difference is there between 256k and 16M? Is it worth getting the E71 over the E5?

The E5 has better social networking integration and a better messaging app. The difference in color quality of the screen is noticed by only the most detailed kind of people.

The E71 is a legendary phone with the highest of build quality, but it's starting to get old. But the fact that the price has remained solid shows you just how great the E71 has been. You should probably go with the E5 since it's cheaper and newer though.

Check out the E5 review on gsmarena.com. It compares the E5 to the E71.

Okay I've read the review, and I'm still left with a few questions.

Very sorry if I'm getting repetitive here. So just to clarify, the E5 can do everything the E71 can, its just a little cheaper in build quality? Because I don't understand why the review kept saying the E71 is a better messaging/business phone is the E5 has the same QWERTY layout and MORE RAM. Am I missing something? Also, both phones run on the same S60 software/firmware, right?

Also, again just to clarify, BOTH the E71 and the E5 allow completely data-independent GPS capabilities right? I don't want to buy the phone and use the GPS thinking its free and get a huge bill from my carrier for data charges. Thanks again!

I love how people, that have absolutely no experience with a certain phone, make such irresponsible statements.

I would ask a person that has the E5 about the speed of the GPS in offline mode.

Even though A-gps helps to aquire a signal quicker, it is not a guarantee that lock will be slow. And certainly not Veeeeery slow.

The best example that I can give is the last two phones I owned. The N97 and the N86. I have tested both phones side by side, with and without A-GPS, and with and without Wifi GPS. The N86 was 10x better than the N97 in the GPS department. Even when offline. My N86 gets a lock in 10-15 seconds even without a data connection. I can get a lock in about 5 seconds with data turned on. (it only takes a few kbs of data each time you connect)

Until someone with an E5 gives us their results, lets not make speculative statements.

Thanks for the input on the GPS feature guys. As long as it has a working GPS that does NOT require Data I'm fine with it haha. Although I'll probably end up getting a data plan anyways, its just good to know that it works without it.

I just wish there were more people with the E5 who could tell me exactly how it compares with the E71/72 :/

I've found my way here.

Works just as well as the E71 in my usage. Just as fast with A-GPS. I have a data plan and I use it.

Visit the above thread to get my decision on E71 v. E5 - thanks for posting it, liknsmak

Thanks for the thread posting liknsmak.

And I guess I'll PM oddsocks with the rest of my questions haha. Thank you everyone!

I like the E5 too. I had the E63 before I went to android and I loved the feel and layout of that phone. Just wanted to go with a touch screen phone but then at times I wish I had a physical qwerty keyboard. I am also very tempted to get the E5 but it does not support threaded views SMS =/

Wait so the E5 doesn't let you view more than 160 characters in a single text? Ahhhh that would be a huge pain for me, I text a lot!

Linksmak, you say there's an app for it that allows you to view them threaded? What do you mean when you say its not 100% integrated.
