Appartently according to recent rumours Drew Barrymore is in talks with Steven Spielberg about making ET2!
Drew Barrymore wants to play her role of Gertie Elliot but only if Spielberg agrees to produce the film. The plot would see ET return to a now grown-up Gertie, desperate for help saving his family from extinction!
Spielberg thought Drew Barrymore was joking at first but now he is actually giving it serious thought about making it. Drew Barrymore thinks the world neeRAB another feelgood movie like ET right now and she's prepared to work with Speilberg to make it happen. I am not expecting this film to be made soon as this rumour may just turn out to be false!

I hope it is true as well but Speilberg did say a few years ago that "I thought about doing a sequel in the intoxication of the success of E.T. but then realized it's a very perfect story." Spielberg continued, "It ended exactly where it should have ended. There is no postscript to it. If people are hungry for a sequel, they should go see this 20th anniversary re-release, because there ain't gonna be one." The rumour was Speilberg had a outline for a sequel which was called E.T 2 : Nocturnal Fears which had some evil aliens who were led by an alien named Korel who are invading Earth!

SounRAB good. 'evil aliens' - sounRAB even more exciting than I first thought. Spielberg shouldn't be too worried about spoiling the original though. If a sequel proved to be a let down, then it could be largely ignored. For example, I don't really like Reloaded, or Revolutions, so I don't bother watching them, but I still think The Matrix is a great film.

Right up there with Lucas' misguided notion that the Star Wars story needed 'filling out'.

There couldn't be less need for E.T. 2. Be nice for one of these older directors, or even one of the younger ones, to have an original idea in america, anyday soon.

There was a book written which was supposed to be a sequel to E.T. which was called ET and the Green Planet or something like that.

Maybe that could be used if there was a sequel.

Their argument will be that it's introducing a new generation to a classic (if nauseating) film.

At least they're not remaking the truly great films like Citizen Kane & Vertigo starring people like Josh Hartnett & Ashton Kucsher.......

Yet

Release a special edition of the original on DVD then.

The original is supposed to be his own story about his father and his distance therefrom played out in his own filmic style, how can he justify whoring out that story for some evil aliens. :D

I still rate every film on it's own merits, for me, crap sequels don't take anything away from the initial film, as if I don't like them, then they become irrelevant to me. Also remember, some sequels can occasionally be better than the original film. Although I admit, ET would be hard to beat.
