E/I Loop Holes

People say that cartoons on network TV are dead cause of E/I rules. However, there's ALWAYS a loop hole. I mean, Saved by the Bell is labeled with E/I. What are kids gonna learn? Don't take caffeine pills.

What are some loop holes that network can use?

I think Animaniacs can serve as an example. It was a silly show in the tradition of classic Looney Tunes, but at the same time you got segments like "the nations of the world" and "brainstem".

All you have to do is claim the show you've made teaches some vague social lesson like "be yourself" and they'll give you an E/I. I believe anything qualifies these days. I also believe whoever hands those marks out doesn't watch the shows they approve.

This three-hours requirement is like Prohibition. It just doesn't work.

So basically, they could just bring back those "moral/educational" 30 second end-of-episode things and any show could be considered educational.

In other words...network TV has just gotten lazy. Actually it's not even that. My theory for years has been that we've just become too much of a near monopoly. Back in the day you had various companies now you only have like three. For example, CBS and Nick were two different things. Hence why they had seperate cartoons. Then, Viacom (for a while) owned both and so the people at CBS said, "let's just air Nick stuff." The same can be said about ABC and Disney. That's what happened, man. That's what killed Saturday morning.

Duh, Case Closed teaches that murder is bad, and that teens trapped in the bodies of 6-year old kids can disguise their true identity ;).

But I don't know about Fruits Basket.
