e. coli?

My boyfriend's mother cleaned some diarrhea off the wall at her work place with no gloves or anything, and a few days later was ridden with a severe case of vomiting and diarrhea, herself. We live with her so I was wondering if it was possible for her to have spread it to my boyfriend as he is now experiencing severe diarrhea and nausea. He has a fever of 101 and can barely get up to use the bathroom, he is in so much pain.

At first we thought maybe his mom got food poisoning as the worst of it only lasted for about 24 hours before beginning to subside to just diarrhea, but now that my boyfriend has it I'm afraid it was something more serious. I am 9 months pregnant and can not risk getting the infection myself. Once again, here are the symptoms of my boyfriend in list format:

1]Abdominal Cramping
2]Severe Diarrhea (extremely watery)
3]Fever
4]Nausea (no vomiting as of yet)
5]Fatigue
6]Immobilizing pain in midsection.

Yesterday he had a sore throat, so this could also be an unrelated case of the flu, right? Thanks for the help. :jester:

That doesn't sound like E. Coli, that sounds like a contagious stomach virus, such as Norwalk. Call your doctor, tell him you've been exposed.

Do not touch boyfriend. Do not touch anything he has touched. Wash your hands frequently, especially before you eat or touch your face. Have a friend bleach the place while wearing gloves.

Still, things like Norwalk virus are not as dangerous as E Coli, even in pregnant women. Worst likely case, you need to go to the hospital for IV fluids. But definitely update your doctor!
