E-2 pre basic promotion running?

I'm getting ready to take my E-2 test before I go to basic which Involves a 2 mile run in under 17:30 or something like that. I've been running it at 14:51 on the "star trac" machine at a local gym with a 1 degree incline. How different is running on a treadmill than it is running on a track? Am I hurting myself by not doing it on the track?
