New to the message boarRAB looking for some support.

I am 31 years old with long history of back problems. I have been diagnosed with DDD L4-S1. Doctor has recommended the Dynesys flex fusion surgery and I was hoping to hear from anybody that has the surgery.

Welcome Michelle. You might do a search on the user name Clover. She had one done in 2007.

Hope this helps.

My doctor has been doing the procedure since 2005 as an alternative to spinal fusion. I don't think there are alot of surgeons doing the procedure yet in the United States.

My son (28 years old) had this procedure on Feb 23, 2009. He has it on 3 levels (lurabar) and it was about a 6 hour surgery. It was done in the USA in Marietta Georgia (close to Atlanta). He is recovering well, and is in a lot less pain. His insurance company (Aetna) covered it. The surgeon had to get Aetna to agree at first they weren't going to cover it, but in the end they agreed to it. Seing my son up and walking without all the pain is wonderful. He is still sore from the surgery but overall he is much better. He is not popping Vicoden every 2 hours and he can return to work within 2 weeks. No lifting or bending of course. I would recomend the prodedure highly. Michele76 I had a regular fusion in my cerevical spine and I still have pain problems in my neck. But my son Frank is very happy with his recovery.

I had 3 levels done also, and had to have them removed due to more problems after it being installed... it doesnt last forever, you need to work out or when the plastic in the dynesys starts to get weak you will be back to square one and in a lot of pain. my dr even told me that. good luck with your son!
