Dwayne Johnson's (The Rock) first good film?

I knew before clicking it it was a link to the Tooth Fairy movie. But i followed the link anyway becasue i wanted to see an updated trailer. I think it looks good and i will see it when it comes out.

I saw the trailer on a US sports channel feed I was watching the Man U game on yesterday.

I just sat here muttering "Bloody hell, Dwayne. .WTF are you doing?!!"

Mind you, if he can carry family comedy films as well as he seems to, then all credit to him.

He's probably going through a phase similar to that of Arnie's "Kindergarten Cop/Twins" period. :p Wouldn't mind a good action flick from him ocassionally though. And not that CGI Scorpion King rubbish.

Yeah it's a bit like Santa Claus that was my first thought.

A funny film it was if you want light-hearted comedy.

It think Dwayne looks like he could be great in it. . .I did enjoy the Scorpion King (if you didn't take it too seriously).

Scorpion King and The Rundown are slightly above average, for brainless adventure/action movies.

Race to Witch Mountain is a decent kiRAB movie.

Be Cool and The Game Plan are entertaining popcorn movies, with Dwayne's natural charisma being the highlight in both.

Get Smart was fun.

Doom and Southland Tales weren't up to much though.

However,he has yet to act in true classic, like Arnie did with The Terminator.

LOL! it looks like its going to be a fun, cute Disney movie....I liked The Game Plan and Get Smart, He was quite good in them....Haven't seen him in Race To Witch Mountain....apparently, he is really good in Gridron Gang (I think that's what its called?!)....Even Julie Andrews is in it which is a bonus because I enjoyed watching her in the Princess Diaries movies...xo

I toatally love the rock hes so funny have you seen the game plan? hes funny in that. Cant wait to see The tooth fairy :D the traillers look good.

Whilst Welcome to the Jungle was so so I thought that Walking Tall was excellent, as was he.

I also enjoyed The Game Plan and Get Smart thought he did comedy very well.

(He had a good cameo in Hannah Montanna too :D )

Personally I think he has a lot of screen presence and charisma.

I went and saw this film yesterday. Yep I saw Tooth Fairy and enjoyed it.

As has been mentioned it is very similar in idea to The Santa Clause but it's nowhere near as good a film. There are some nice bits in there and one or two laugh out loud bits. It could certainly have been better and funnier though.
I don't think it's Dwayne (I still think that is a stupid name lol) best film. I think he was better in Race to Witch Mountain, but he was ok in this. He is definatel a better actor and comedian than what you see in this film.

IMO he gets overshadowed by of all people Stephen Merchant. At last getting a chance to step out from the sghadows of the ridiculously over rated Ricky Gervais he got to show that he is a good comedy actor himself. He isn't doing anything you haven't seen him do before but he comes across as being a part of the scene with Johnson and not just there to make him look good which was his role with Gervais.
With the right sort of roles I think he could get a career in the US because they do like the "funny/quirky Brit" in their films. Apparently it was Johnson that wanted him for the film.

The film won't blow anyone a way and would really suit someone under 10 but I enjoyed it. :)

5/10

This movie looks like the hulk hogan Mr nanny of its time lol
i like the rock but he seems to be destroying his hard ass image with all these kiRAB films.

It's not as bad as Mr Nanny thanks to Dwayne being a better actor. lol

It's funny I've just posted about something you mentioned on the IMDB forums.

You are right he is destroying his image but it's deliberate. He wants too. The problem is you've made the same mistake that the guy I replied too on the other site made and called him "The Rock." He isn't the Rock, He's Dwayne.

Thank god for copy and paste. :D

The Rock was a character. When he entered the WWF/WWE he was at first called Dwayne Johnson and was pused as being the sone of Peter Maivia. It wasn't until later when he turned heel he became The Rock.
When he's interviewed he won't allow them to say they have "the Rock" as a guest. He is happy to talk about wrestling, his career and The Rock, but he is always Dwayne. When asked about it he distinctly said it was to seperate the two. When he is in the WWE or doing something for them he is The Rock, when he isn't he is Dwayne.

Stone Cold is the same but to a smaller degree. His real name is Steve Williams, but he knows that for the world he is Austin and accepts that. Also it makes him money so he is stupid. What he doesn't do is say I am Stone Cold making films. He won't do the gestures, the walk and the catchphrases as he isn't being Stone Cold. Like Dwayne he says that his WWE character is just that. It's a character he created for wrestling.

People such as Flair and Hogan have crossed the line. They've been so taken over by their characters that they have become them and can't switch off. When you watch Hogan Knows Best which is a terrible show you see he still calls everyone "Brother" and talks about his "Pythons" and so forth.

Whether Dwayne is making good or bad films is something else entirely, but "The Rock" isn't making good or bad films.
Because of his links to wrestling he could go on to be a really big action star but he has things holding him back because of his fanbase. He is/was a rolemodel to a lot of kiRAB and knows it. So making a film where he is killing and running around with machine guns etc he is very careful about. For the very reason you did. Oh look it's The Rock killing people. Oh look it's The Rock terrorising kiRAB and children.
Dwayne has said that he wants to make "family" films and films that kiRAB can see and that is fair enough. It's his choice when all is said and done.

I really can't see Dwayne ever going onto action films much as the fans of The Rock may wish him too. He want's to make fun movies and have a laugh. If he wanted to do all the throwing punches etc he only neeRAB to give Vince a call and he could possibly walk into the biggest short term wrestling contract ever.

IMO Hollywood is missing out on a great opportunity. Pair him and Austin up for a comedy film. Something like stupid buddy cop, but no swearing and violence. The pair have a great chemistry together. It could be really good. Austin has said he would like to do a comedy with him.
