1) how many can fit in a ten gallon with good filteration and live plants etc

2) can i put one puffer and another type of fish? or is it better in a species only tank?

3) any other info?
how does this sound... one dp and one or two kuhli loaches in a 10 gallon?

They say 5 gallons per Puffer but I kept two in a 10 gallon before and one killed the other.

Plecos or small catfish like Cory's are fine with them

This is a great site.

Also its worth noting they don't eat flakes or pellets, you need to feed them Blood worms, Brine Shrimp and small tiny black pond sails that you sometimes see in fish store tanks. If you can't provide this diet daily, don't buy one.

Best of Luck

Edit: Don't listen to peter, Hes way off. Obviously has never kept them.
2 at the most in your 10 gallon tank. They are not brackish water fish either, although they can be acclimated to it, they are a pure freshwater fish in retail fish tanks.

that site the other answerer rovided is great, and will tell you pretty much everything.

I just wanted to add kuhli loaches will be fine with them too, I prefer them over cory cats.

u shoud only keep a species tank for them. they tend to pick on other fish. ur tank could probably hold 4 dwarf puffer fish. dwarf puffers are hardy and can survive in fresh and saltwater. they should be kept in brackish water conditions. they inhabit mangrove estuarys and feed on small crustaceans and very small fish. they also like worms. u should keep 4 because they get scared by themselves just like peacock bass in an aquarium.
