The hacker behind the cracking of DVD’s Content Scrambling System (CSS) has developed a way to hack an iPhone to enable it to be used as an iPod with WiFi connectivity yet without the need for AT&T’s service deal.

no but its closer to getting it fully unlocked and people bitched if they were out of contract or whatever and would still have to pay to use it as a media player. now they won't and it would still work as a internet device as well.

What's the point? You'll lose a lot of features that are AT&T only. Like google maps, interactive voice mail, etc . . .
