Ultimately the Cold War comes down to this: will something spark a nuclear confrontation between the Soviet Union and the West? Since Truman through Reagan managed to avoid this scenario I would say that each of them got it right in foreign policy. Each made mistakes, but not the ultimate mistake: blundering into yet another devastating and possibly annihilating war.
