dudley moore-anyone else rate his films?

First Arthur movie had it's moments...it had some good lines, it had Geilgud's wonderfully droll, sarcastic butler and Liza Minelli's spirited performance.

The sequel I thought was poor - simply made because the first one made a lot of money.

I thought most of his movies apart from that were pretty ordinary - but I will make an exception for Foul Play. A very entertaining Hitchcock style comedy with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase, but Moore plays a small but very funny role as an English composer.

And Crazy People...not that it's a great movie, but contains one of my all favorite lines of dialogue...

The plot concerns Moore as an advertising executive who has a breakdown and enRAB up in a mental hospital. He teams up with Daryl Hannah who convinces him that he should get the inmates to submit ideas for advertising concepts.

Of course he dismisses it as ridiculous...but she asks the patients 'hanRAB up who wants to be an advertising executive?', and of course they all shoot their hanRAB up shouting 'Oh, me, me!' etc.

And Moore says 'HanRAB up who here wants to be a fire engine?'

Exactly the same reaction...and Moore just gives her a withering, resigned look that is priceless.

I loved Arthur when it came out. It was such an original story line and cannot imagine anybody but Dudley Moore playing him.

Now when I watch it I'm more attracted to Susan Johnson than Liza Minelli's chracacter and feel he's making a big mistake :) . Sadly I also find the character (not the actor) slightly irritating.

I still ike him in 10, Unfaithfully Yours and also a very rarely seen film called 'Lovesick' (but this last one may be because Elizabeth McGovern is in it).

I like Arthur and 10.

His appearances alongside Peter Cook in the original Bedazzled and Monte Carlo or Bust are also great.

Fans of MCOB can find it on R1 dvd under its original far more catchy title- Those Daring Young Men In Their Jaunty Jalopies.
