Ducati v.s Aprilia v.s MV Agusta v.s Japanese bikes Maintenance Costs

besides opinions...has anyone ever seen any empirical evidence regarding maintenance cost comparisons between italian bikes (or on a larger scale...any bikes, for that matter)?

1) Japanese bike forum opinions - "Itialian bikes are way to expensive and not worth it...they are not as reliable and too finicky...you have the best if you go japanese"
2) Ducati forums - "if you take care of your ducati, it will take care of you...and if you do, the costs are nowhere near as high as what everyone thinks...also you have the best if you have a ducati"
3) Aprilia forums - "we are italian passion without the perceived ducati maintenance cost...also aprilias are more reliable then ducati...you have the best if you go aprilia"
4) MV Agusta - "all bikes not MV are inferior on multiple levels and our bikes are the sexiest...if you don't have a MV then you will never understand...maintenance cost? who cares - i can afford it"
5) BMW - "we build the most reliable, innovative machines on the planet period!"

you get my point...every forum i visit and study is the same...OUR BIKES ARE THE BEST...and so i re-state my initial question...is there any empirical evidence? (excluding the most important point that it is ALWAYS the rider and not the bike)

peace

well the jap bikes valve adjustment come at 14500 instead of 7500 miles so as it turns out it is half the service of a ducati. as far as price it will depend on your dealer.

Well Fellows....I have an MV F41000, a Suzuki SV650 and a Ducati. While I truly don't know which to praise the most Between the F4 and the Ducati, I can tell you that the two of them are on another planet compared to the Suzuki. Cartainly the SV is easier to ride but once you learn an MV or a Duc there is no comparison whatsoever between ANY italian and the Japs. Aprilia unfortunately has a ton of problems...it is a very good bike, fast, great on corners etc but a lot of maintenance problems.

Let me make sure that this thread does not go in any other direction other than the only direction that i initially intend...

Reply should include:
1) no opinions
2) empirical evidence
3) maintenance cost comparisons

my heart was not to develop any background for any person to feel they need to defend/justify any certain bike...i am looking for data, numbers, etc...how can any of us feel the need to banter back and forth if there are empirical evidences

peace...and i mean it!! peace lol

ALFREDOB - i also agree with you on what a forum is about...+1

for those who have ONLY opinion...or for those who misunderstand my intent and think that i am trying to "make an excuse for the differences" (as you have previously stated) - well, these are the exact things that i wanted to prevent on this particular thread...

we all love bikes here...and we are all passionate about what we ride (or in my case what i am hoping to be riding very soon)...we should all have one love for everyone on two wheels...

i don't want you to feel like i am trying to start some rivally nor do i want you to think that i need to make any excuses for some reason...you have some beautiful bikes, brother...and i can't afford the bikes you have even though i make a great living in medicine...i am a family man and a scientist at heart... i am curious about real numbers...that is all...i want to squash the differences in my heart so that i feel 100000% secure about my future purchase...peace...we are brothers

I've got 3 Aprilias and I could not disagree more with the maintenance portion of this comment . Aside from having one brembo recall which was fixed before I ever noticed a problem, I've had zero "problems" with them. Now, for interest sake, zero is far less than a "ton". I think we're getting away from ourselves on that point, and I'm guessing it's a gossip issue. Someone has a problem, and within a short time "they all have a problem" .... It's a game of telephone....I find this amusing although misguided. I'm speaking from my personal experience, not from a mag, not from a forum thread, and not from the guy next door (your competing bike salesman). I love my Duc, I love my Aprilias...let's hope my Ducati can match the impeccable record of my 3 Aprilias.

sorry more opinions on the way.......i also have had 2 aprilia's and have has zero problems(unless you count using a little more oil than usual a problem). also how can you put a f4 and a 1098 in the same comparison with a sv650. poor zuk never had a chance. i had an 06 gsxr1k it was a strong bike and never any problems with it(well the clutch was complete shit) but other than that it was point and ride.

as long as you stay on top of it you should be good on wich ever one you buy. dont depend all on numbers and "facts" to decide what bike you want. pick the one that makes you feel a little funny-like when you used to climb the rope back in gym class lol
