...says "no big deal"? seller said he had been too busy, i think that he wanted to save a few bucks and leave it to buyer, can a late first service check be potentially problematic, i'm inclined to think not but a moto technician i'm not, much thanks
 
It's not a big deal. Years ago, piston rings had to wear in to match the cylinder walls. You had to change the oil at 400 mi. because it was full of metal shavings from the piston rings. And while they were doing that, they'd look over the bike and see if there were any other problems. Actually they did this with both motorcycles and cars. But today the rings and cylinders are made to closer tolerances so they don't have to break in the same way.
 
I think it's not a big deal, but perhaps he can cut you some slack in the price b/c you will have to cough up the dough to do it. B/c the bike is so new, I don't see any long term issues. The current owner was just a cheap s.o.b. who never really appreciated it anyways.
