is it unrealistic for me to? learn to maintain my own ducati?? i realize this is very hypothetical, and apologize for that, but you would think ducati inc. would actually want to sell bikes, as opposed to price gouging the customers, thanks for any feedback, mark in san antonio

There is nothing wrong with fixing/maintaining your own bike. In fact you will find it very rewarding. All that it will take is a small investment in some basic tools (maybe a few not so basic tools) and a factory repair manual, then, have at it. If you make a mistake once or twice you will eventually get it right.

quite honestly you'd be better off just buying a japanese bike. They're just as fast, reliable and aesthetically pleasing.

Learning to maintain it yourself? time consuming.

Ducati do want to sell bikes, but you have to have the money to get them up. I would talk a course and buy books to learn how to work on it yourself. I have a friend that has an old one and he has someone do the work for him, and your right it isn't cheap. They are a good bike, especially for long rides.
