Ducati 549?

Well, I can't read it. It looks like a 549cc. Personally, I think it would be a mistake. Which class will it compete against? 600cc? How is it going to keep up with the Honda's, Yamaha's, Suzuki's, and Kawasaki's?

The 848 isn't competing either really. That's why Ducati isn't "planning"(at this point at least) to make an "S" or "R" version of the 848 from what I hear from my dealer. They made the 848 as just a pure sportbike with no intention of a factory backed race team for it. Pridmore is racing one in formula extreme, but that's it I believe. I guess on a club level the 549 wouldn't really have a place, and that could be an issue. It would make for a cool street ride though, like I don't already have one or two of those. I like the styling a lot. I'd hit it if the price was right, $10K or so.

well, That's exactly what I'm talking about. Why would you spend $10,000 for a beginner bike? That's a lot of money and not enough power. Remember, the 748's cannot keep up with the Honda 600RR or Yamaha R6, etc. Unless, you are a Ducati fan. However, if you are a Ducati fan, you've already have a Ducati or two. What do you think?

I definitely see your point there. Power wise no it's not going to be faster than my 600. I just like it, and I think a single thumper would be fun, it would be different. I already have all the power I need with my 1098 anyway. Who know's if they'll even make this thing anyway. I also heard rumors of Binelli and MV producing 675 triples to compete with the Triumph in World Supersport in '08, but we'll see on that too. A 675 MV would be pretty sweet!

Supermono's are singles. They are ment to compete in differant race series around the world. Because they only have one cylender, they can compete in ultra light classes. Against some of the lightwieght two strokes. It will be expensive for what it is and not really ment to be a street bike. They used to make them years ago. I've watched them race at Daytona during bikeweek before. But it was rare to see one because they were expensive and hard to get.
