i'm itching to buy another bike, i haven't had one in years. i definitely want to go offroad but if i can go on the streets with the same bike, then great. however the main kind of off-roading i like is in sand.

how do dual-purpose bikes hold up in a sand dune environment? should they stay away? can they hold their own?

My last DS was a Yamaha 350 and we lived near some fine Sand Dunes in Southern Utah. It will work but it is work. DS bikes are heavier then regular Dirt bikes and have less traction so you have to keep your speed up. I eventually bought a 4 wheeler so I didn't have to work so hard. What you might want to do is get a more aggressive rear tire to get better traction.
