I have a mild case of acne and my dermatologist prescribed Duac Gel on Friday. Friday night I applied it and woke up Saturday with an itchy and red face. However, that went away and because it seemed to be working I applied it again last night. This morning when I woke up I was slightly itchy. Now, later in the afternoon without having applied the gel today my face is red and VERY itchy. Has anyone used this gel and had similar side effects? If yes, I can not get in touch with my doctor until tomorrow, do you have any suggestions on calming the itching/redness? ALL answers greatly appreciated.

ughhh u cant have ur cake and eat it too. it sucks. red, itchy clear face thats mis-pigmented or nasty acne. ? you choose

I was given Duac gel to try a little under two weeks ago. Like you at first it seemed like it was working...

But the last few days my skin has become red and itchy and irritated. I know that this is usually a stage one has to go through to treat skin conditions so I just kept up with it religiously. But yesterday it seemed even more irritated, and this morning I woke up with a bit of a rash on my Right cheek (which was the one with the most breakout that I was putting more duac on that side to treat the acne).

Well that was this morning at 3:30am, here it is 2pm and I've got a full blown, super itchy, red and irritated breakout.
I'm going to be calling my DR. and ask her if this is normal or if I should come in to see her.

I'll let you know what she says. You should get it looked at though I think, a bit of irritation is normal but not super itchy and bumpy!

I could be wrong here, but in my book, red itchy skin is never ok. It means you should stop using the product right away, otherwise the itching will continue and likely worsen. If the rash doesn't go away, take benadryl and call the doctor.

I spoke to my dermatologist on Monday. He told me to not use the Duac everyday but to use it maybe every three days. I waited a few days and used the Duac again and my face is insanely itching. So, he also prescribed Renova with a moisturizer and I think now I am just going to use that because the Duac is making me itch horribly.

i have been using it for a week tomorrow now and have not experience redness. but itchy yes.. but i am sure this is a common side effect because of the drying affect it has on the skin... i think it may be a phase.. but maybe an allergic reaction for those of you with redness too... i am going to stick with it and see if it gets better. i used this before a few years ago and i dont recall having this happen... maybe it did but passed quickly. all i know is that duac helped me immensely with my skin before. hopefully it does it again!
