If any of you have ever operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, please do us all a favor and go jump off the nearest bridge.

I was riding with my friend to get a bite to eat while we were taking a break from working a few days ago. We came up to an intersection, a 4-way stop. She stopped at the stop sign, and then proceeded through the intersection. The person coming from the right didn't stop. In fact they were speeding. They struck the passenger side of the car I was riding in with such force that it flipped onto its roof. I was on the passenger side. I managed to walk away with only some scrapes, bruises, lacerations, and a minor concussion. I was wearing my seatbelt. Unfortunately my friend was not so lucky. She's still in the hospital with a severely broken arm (her radius and ulna snapped, and were penetrating the skin) a concussion, and other injuries.

When I was pulled out of the car, I saw the driver of the truck that hit us being arrested, and heard the officer say "...you are under arrest for driving while intoxicated..."

It fucking figures. I hope his ass goes to jail for a looooooooong time.

I think it should be a mandatory permanent loss of your driver's license on the FIRST offense and there should also be a mandatory 5 year minimum jail sentence.

I was told of a story in gym classs...in which a 17 year old and his 15 year old passanger were drunk driving....they got into a crash. The 15 year old died and the 17 year old got something like.....60 days in juvenile hall and a license suspension for 4 years. I agree, the laws should be toughened 10 fold. Maybe then people will not be stupid and go out and get innocents killed.

Yeah, u know my sister live's in Oslo, (that's in norway) and she was riding her bike back from a club when she was crossing a narrow street when suddenly a sportscar rev's up and overtakes a another car and hits her on her bicycle, luckily she didnt break anything but she got lots of bruises and a concussion, got glass in her face and she could barely walk for about 3 weeks because the car had hit her knees.

the driver stopped as he hit her, but he and a passanger got out and ran away.

it turns out that they were indian immigrants, the car was'nt theirs and they were drunk.

because of this my sister has to take her bs and masters test a year late.

Fucking bastards.

ah, so that's where you've been ferengi. shit we were getting worried, were gonna send the search and rescue dogs out for you!!

i hope your friend gets better real quick, and although i agree the penalties for dd is too lenient i doubt they'd toughen the laws nationally. like here in NY, you get to spend the night/weekend if caught on the week's end in jail, your car gets repo'd, you have to pay some fines, and that's just for DUI not a DWI. but there is backlash already, "oh its too strict, yadda, yadda..." we'll see how long the law remains in force.

I've grown up learning how to drive drunk. It's all a matter of if you can or not, but I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's mostly open roads. I'm more cautious and obay trafic laws more when I'm drunk. It also has to do with the degree of drunkeness you achieve.

Fuck. I'm sorry, man.

My Grandma was hit by a drunk driver. She lost her leg, and needed a blood transfusion. This was back when they didn't screen the blood for diseases. From the transfusion, she got infected with Hepatitus C. The drunk driver doesn't know it, but he's still killing her.
