Droid X on alltel, progress, need a little help though.

Droid X here with latest OTA update installed and it is now ROOTED.

Previous phone: HTC Droid Eris on alltel, was working perfect with fully functional 3G. I used the built in #778 PST to program the phone, no computer interface required at all to make that happen.

On my ERIS, the ONLY thing I had to do to get 3G working perfect is go to ##778 and then to the security section.
What I filled in to get it working:

HDR AN Auth: my10dig#@alltel.net
HDRAN AUTH PASSWORD: HEX ESN OF THE ERIS
PPP USER ID: my10dig#@alltel.net
PPP PASSWORD: alltel

I didn't even have to change anything in the M.IP settings of the eris's programming menu, just left them at verizon values.

The eris is now sad with a broken LCD. New phone...

Progress with my Droid X:

I followed the guide http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1643218-Motorola-Droid-Full-Solution-Updated/page42

What I have done is set the Alltel PRL using CDMA Workshop
Programmed and activated
Used QPST to apply M.IP and PPP user names and passwords
Rebooted. 1X is working PERFECT. 3G pops up on the status bar for a few seconds sometimes but then switches back to 1X, seems to me its just not authenticating maybe. Maybe I have my HEX ESN of the droid incorrect for my "HDRAN AUTH PASSWORD"? How do i find the HEX ESN for this phone? The eris told me what it is outright in it's programming menu, the droid/droid X does not.

Can someone tell me exactly where those values from my eris above need to be entered in QPST? The fields aren't named the same...

Also, do I need to do the U2NL files and autostart modifications ?.. Looked like that was just to change the proxy address for Cricket, would this apply to alltel at all? I didn't need to do anything like that on my Eris to get it working full 3G on my alltel. Thanks a whole lot for reading my jabber.

I know on my eris I had a problem where 1x would only work and 3g refused to work only flashing the icon up for a few seconds. Sounds similar. It turned out that i accidentally put a space after either the password or username in the security settings. Make sure you have no spaces after any of the stuff you input.

If you get it up and working correctly with 3g, you should alert the forum. I know I'd dump my eris for a droid if I knew I could get it functioning properly.

Thanks a whole lot for the replies.

Welp, I went into QPST and connected to my old eris, started writing my own values under the PPP Tab under UM and AN just to find out if I am typing in the correct fields while programming my Droid X's info, went to ##778 on the Eris to the security section to confirm that I have been writing the UM/aN auth passwords in the correct locations in QPST.

Wrote the HEX ESN of my Droid X under PPP AN password with [email protected] as the user, still no 3G... flashes 3G for a couple seconds, back to solid working 1X data, hmmphhh... SO stumped, makes no sense... Maybe the HEX ESN of droid hasnt been updated on the alltel server? eh? is that a possibility ? Maybe it's just not authenticating because of that, but how do I tell alltel to check such a thing? I told them I activated an HTC Hero android

I'm wondering...

With CDMA workshop (latest version) in the status, when I wrote the HDR (hex esn of phone) and PPP (alltel) passwords to my ERIS it shows

Write EVDO(HDR) AN Password (short)... Success

On the Droid X, when I write those values it shows...

Write EVDO(HDR) AN Password (long)... Success
Write EVDO(HDR) AN Password (short)... Success

This screenshot is writing values to the Droid X, it only shows HDR AN in the status because that is the only value that I changed since the last time I wrote the EVDO settings, but... just showing you that there are two fields for PPP and HDR, guessing one is short, one is long, do these need to be changed?

st1.jpg

scribbled out is my 10 digit number and HEX ESN of the droid X

Does this mean I have a short AND a long HDR and PPP Password for the DROID X ? What would be the long? Does the short need to be converted? In CDMA workshop I have fields for both the short and long PPP and HDR passwords. Weird

3G Is popping up SOMETIMES (in my apartment where i know I had full signal 3G with my Eris) and it doesnt seem to quite want to transfer data while it shows 3G, soon as it switches back to 1X data starts working.

EDIT: Just used CDMa workshop to read the CDMA values of an Alltel Branded and activated HTC HERO and all of my values are correct based on the factory alltel values on the HTC HERO

Sounds just like my issue I had with my eris... the culprit was a space after inputting a value.

I'm not sure if you've checked that over or not... just pointing it out again in case you missed it (though i doubt it)

I can't figure it out myself. I want to call alltel for troubleshoot but im pretty sure the moment the inquired a little deeper they would realize it wasn't an alltel phone. meh. I don't get it, everything should be a green light but I can't send mms nor get on 3g for more than 10 minutes at a time (very few select oppurtunities for that) I just have to dial *#*#info#*#* to switch between cdma only and cdma prl when i feel like trying for that 3g for a few minutes. meh. it just makes no sense.

A quick check of the data authentication log will tell a rep why it is failing 3G/Ev connection. That is also how I tell when someone is using a non-alltel handset because it will typically display what username the phone is trying to use. In your case you have changed this info but something is still weird.

Thanks a whole lot for the reply cclay25, I remember long ago getting help from you about an old motorola phone I had on alltel and you were very helpful.

My HEX MEID (on the sticker of the phone) converts to a (P)ESN HEX of 8 digits, has no letters, is that normal? Seems that should be the correct HDR AN Authentication password, programmed that in, along with "alltel" as the PPP password. Both have [email protected] as the user names for PPP and HDR user name.

These are the exact settings (minus the HEX (p) ESN being different) that I had on my Eris on alltel and it was working perfect.

1X still working perfect, 3G still pops up sometimes but does not work.

I could call Alltel, but I do figure like you said, they'd just realize I'm not using an alltel handset and refuse to help me..

thanks

Does anyone know what NV item stores the HDR AN Authentication password?

I'm thinking maybe CDMA Workshop and QPST are not writing my HEX (p)ESN through the GUI, maybe I've got to manually make the HEX NV value and write it and see if that works. The NV file can not be read, only written to, same goes with the PPP Password, I know for sure that the PPP password is being written though, 1X connects as soon as I write the PPP password using CDMA Workshop or QPST.

NV item 01992 is HDR AN Authenticator password, coverted my hex (p)esn and put it in the nv item and wrote seem 01992 successfully, ... still not authenticating.

Converted the hex NV item to text to make sure i made the seem file correctly, yes, its perfectly fine. Something else is stopping the droid from connecting to alltel 3G... so strange.

OKay it was stated a check of the data auth. log would be able to let us know why it isn't connecting. How abouts would simple ol' me find this log? with adb? or what?

meh. I will call them tomorrow, luckily i have 2 droid phones so I will probably have to swap to the other if they suspect something haha.
